Be aware that this deal is for Amtrak Vacations which is not Amtrak but a travel agency.

if your really looking for a deal instead of Amtrak... use gotobus. they have been doing tours for a decade at a fraction of Amtrak... sure sure... it may be chinese most times... but it works at a slick deal price.
The trains go through scenery and places the buses can't get to.

I could never be on a train that long but the train stops in various cities and you get off and do sight-seeing and stay in hotels a lot of those days.

Just went coast to coast and back on a USA rail pass. I rode in coach, but the seats ate like recliners and easy for me to sleep in. I took two weeks and spent time in Denver, drove to the Black Hills of SD, spent nights in Portland, OR, Seattle, WA and with friends. Tickets were only $499 all in. Its not luxury, more of an adventure. Three must haves for the trip: pillow, blanket, and a cooler. Amtrak was very flexible and allowed me to change my itinerary while on the train. And yes, i would do it again.

Look up the itinerary of the route you want to take and take note of the times it will be passing through places you want to see. Some routes are only scenic one direction because you spend so much time traveling at night. Also, if you have the slightest trouble sleeping while traveling try to upgrade to a sleeper. The seats are OK, but not easy to sleep in and the viewing/observation cars get full at night from people sleeping on the floor and the more comfortable chairs. I also spent 8 hours next to an old man who had an old GPS tablet and had put his destination in and it spent HOURS telling him to make left or right turns only to immediately say "Recalculating" because it was giving road directions on a freaking train. Staff did nothing about it and I couldn't' convince him to turn it down or off. Dining car is family style so you'll likely be seated with strangers - but I had a fascinating conversation with a Native American author who had written down a lot of his tribes stories and he spoke at length about some really cool stuff. Take lots of snacks and drinks if you can - the concession car isn't always open, has limited selection, and it's overpriced.
Thanks a lot that's very helpful!

For 1 bedroom how easily can you hear the other bedroom/hallway/etc?

Two months ago I looked at the tix for the scenic routes (Northern light) and one bedroom were all booked until 3,4 months later...they are just popular huh and hard to book? 3,4 months that's very far away....
