Did sd cards also go up like ram and other stuff? I got a 512 probably a year or two ago and it was definitely less than $50

Some yes. I got Samsung microSD Express for $75 from this deal (https://slickdeals.net/f/18917035-samsung-p9-microsd-express-memory-card-512gb-75-free-shipping) and now it is $200 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FT995...X0DER&th=1)

I got the other deal on the Samsung 256gb, would this be better for my dashcam?

You don't need microsd "express" for dash cam. Only device I know of that requires express is the switch 2. I assume you mean the Samsung express microsd card for 40 dollars. For dash cams get endurance rated cards that can survive multiple write cycles.

Yeah but I believe it's a different data interface. micro sd express is backward compatible so I think it will work

I guess to answer your question, don't buy this.
You'll be paying a lot more for no benefit.

Your dashcam doesn't support microsd express. It will work because the microsd express is backwards compatible but there is no point to paying this price when you cannot use the performance benefits.

Also, for a dashcam, you want a microsd rated for endurance not performance. It needs to be able to survive constant write cycles so that one day 2 years from now when you actually need the footage it's not corrupt.

Edit: I just realize prices on endurance cards went to hell. But still, better to get an Samsung or sandisk endurance card of small size than one that will crap out. For dash cam, it just needs to record the drive god forbid something happens.

Sure you can use this in a dashcam, but it's not ideal, because it's not built for constant writes and rewrites, so the result would be that you'll end up with a failed memory card sooner then you'd like. In the same way that you can use all-season tires to drive in snow, and yes, you can "make it work", but it's not ideal and you could end up in a ditch. Smilie

I bought the PNY 1TB PRO Elite for my Switch OLED a few years ago and it stopped working within 2 weeks. That was the first and last time I ever buy anything from this brand.

I have a bunch of security cameras and dash cams with micro SD slots. The only ones I've had fail were the endurance-rated cards. Now I just buy whatever, I haven't had a failure since.

Maybe I just got the two worst ones, or maybe endurance rating is irrelevant. Can't say for sure with my small test pool.
