This LAMTTO 9 inch wireless CarPlay screen stands out for adding CarPlay, streaming apps, and a 720p backup camera in one unit. The display is described as HD 1024 by 600 IPS, and the brand has handled a dead unit replacement with active support. Installation is the main hurdle, with wiring and reverse light splicing taking a few hours and requiring care to avoid the wrong wire. The listed price is not seen as especially compelling, and firmware downloads for these units appear unavailable. A practical pick if you are comfortable with car wiring.

Common Questions (5)

  • Installation is usually a moderate DIY job and can take 2-4 hours, depending on the vehicle. The main work is routing the backup camera cable from front to back and connecting it to the reverse-light wire, so it is best suited to someone comfortable doing basic car repairs.

  • Yes, for many similar CarPlay screen setups you can use a plug-and-play adapter from Amazon instead of splicing wires. That can simplify installation and avoid the risk of tapping the wrong reverse-light wire.

  • It includes streaming apps and a backup camera, but not a dash cam or built-in front camera. If you want front-facing recording, a different model with an integrated front camera is the better fit.

  • The listing does not specify the resolution, but one review/comment identifies the display as an HD 1024x600 IPS panel. That gives a clearer idea of the screen quality than the product page alone.

  • The brand's website reportedly does not offer downloads for these units, so firmware updates or fixes may not be available there. If long-term software support matters, that is a practical limitation to consider.

According to one of the reviews/comments it's an HD 1024x600 IPS display.

How complicated are these things to wire up? Including the backup cam.

I'd say it's a moderate task, really depends on the car model. Not too difficult but can take 2-4 hours as you figure out the wiring. you just have to find a sightly way to get the backup camera wire between the back and the front of the car, and to make sure you're hooking the backup camera wire to the correct wire in your tail light.

I would skip this one. there are other vendors/models with built in front camera. so you get a dash cam along with screen.

Agree, there are a few wires that could be the wire you want to attach the camera to and you don't want to splice it into the wrong wire and accidentally blow a fuse, you need it to turn on when the reverse lights turn on. I used a needle attacked to the camera power wire to poke through the possible wires until I found the one that powered the camera on when the reverse lights were on. Also depending on how hard it is to even get to your wires in the back could change how complex the installation is. It took me a few hours on my Audi Q5 with help from a YouTube video and moderate handyman skills. Don't expect it to be super easy.

I'm not one to demand legislative oversight into one's personal life -- but man, it really really should be illegal to have youtube (or ANY video application) as an option on a car's display. The potential for misuse is akin to having open containers of alcohol in a vehicle.

There's nothing special about this price. You have a lot of choice on Amazon for these types of units. Yes you get streaming apps on this one but you don't get a dashcam. Also note that while Lamtto have a website, you won't find any downloads on it for these units so you can effectively forget about firmware updates/fixes if needed.

I'd only attempt it if you actively do repairs on your own car. I wouldn't take it on as a first time car project.

You can also find the tail light wiring for most common vehicles online. That's what I did for mine, it wasn't in the manual but easy to locate on the internet.
