As for the backup cam, as others said it depends on the car but I use the door and trims to route the wire from front to the back and use those plastic trim tools. Once you get the cable into the trunk (around the back seats) you have to get under the liner in the trunk lid to get to the rear license plate area of that's where you need to and splice into the reverse lights.
Vans are easier as you can stick these on the door or something and even flip the image based on how you install.
