This Acer Aspire 14 AI stands out as a strong spec-for-price refurb, with the Core Ultra 9, 32GB of RAM, 1TB SSD, and integrated graphics that handle everyday work, gaming, and even Switch emulation well. The unit is manufacturer refurbished by Acer on eBay, with free 30 day returns and a 2 year AllState warranty, and the listing sometimes shows a $50 coupon that drops it near $601. The main drawback is the display, which is described as a 1200p 60Hz IPS panel with about 61% sRGB and 327 nits, so color and brightness are weak. Stock also appears to come and go quickly, so timing matters.

Common Questions (5)

  • The panel is a touchscreen, but the listed specs are about 61% sRGB, 45% RGB/DCI-P3, and a 327-nit max brightness. That makes it a functional 1200p IPS screen, but not a strong choice if you care about color accuracy, brightness, or OLED-like contrast.

  • The Ultra 9 model is described as very strong for the price, and the integrated GPU is compared to a desktop GTX 1060-class level with AI upscaling and frame generation. The Ultra 7 version is also said to be only a small step down in performance while running cooler and lasting longer on battery.

  • It appears to be out of stock most of the time, with only 1 or 2 units showing up for an hour or two every few days. If you want it at the target price, you need to watch the listing closely and buy quickly when it appears.

  • Yes. A logged-in eBay view showed a $50 coupon that brought the price down to about $601, and another buyer reported the Ultra 7 version dropping to $502. The listing price can fluctuate, so checking for coupons and price drops matters.

  • Yes. The listing is sold by Acer on eBay as manufacturer refurbished, includes free 30-day returns, and comes with a 2-year AllState warranty. It's still worth inspecting the machine and stress-testing the CPU and RAM right away.

I care mostly about the screen when I purchase any laptop.
How is the screen in this one?
I agree with you. Of all the parts to a laptop, the screen is the one you interact with the most so it's important to me to get the best. I've pretty much relegated myself to OLED displays because of the colors and blackest blacks. Getting an OLED with proper whites isn't always a sure thing. I dislike muddy whites. I've got a mini-LED 32" monitor on my desktop and while it does have other issues, the whites are super bright and very white. That makes the colors look even better! And, yes, high refresh rate.

This laptop being a 1200p 60Hz IPS screen with around 300 nits isn't for me.

I wasn't saying it to be snarky over the years I bought more than 50 laptops and I've tried every possible combination the only time really I've had good luck is buying from Apple and a store like Best Buy or Staples where when it does have a problem you can bring it back within 15 days with little to no trouble probably 30% of laptops have to go back because a lot of them just aren't designed well and you will not be satisfied with it to begin with factor in that somebody else already returned this and then it goes up exponentially
Just to add, many times the issue that the laptop was returned the first time is never fixed during the refurbishment process. Things like dead screens or some repeatable issue may be fixed, but random issues are hard to troubleshoot and many time, the buyer of the refurb unit becomes the tester and winds up still having random issues.

It is out of stock now. I feel terrible about missing it. Is there any chance that the Ultra 7 deal might come back again? Thanks.
For this particular listing, it appears to be out of stock "usually" and then 1 or 2 units become available for an hour or 2 every few days so you have to be ready to make your move when one comes up. I've watched it on/off over the past few months and when the price dropped to what I paid in April I was ready to go (especially since I'm assuming everyone will be raising laptop prices even more soon with Apple's recent RAM BS price increases).

I just ordered the Ultra 7 version for $502 (it dropped $30). The performance difference between the Ultra 7 and 9 is supposed to be relatively minor, and from reviews the Ultra 7 is considerably more efficient, cooler running, with better battery life. The Ultra 7 goes in and out of stock, just have to monitor the ebay listing if interested for availability.

Typing my reply on that model, had for 2-3 months. Fantastic machine, games well for having no GPU, emulates Switch upscaled zero issues, crazy long battery life, and after tinkering with screen settings (mainly just upping Saturation in Intel Command Center) looks wonderful. Default settings looked...terrible).

I just received this same refurbished/recertified Acer from Target through a similar SD post. This one is technically the better deal as Target was $699 without Allstate. I likely still advise getting it from Target for a little extra if you're going to go refurb though because of ease of return (unless the eBay seller makes this one very easy as well).

Unfortunately I booted mine yesterday, started going through some initial setup and got blue screen of death. Had to hard reset it two more times before it stopped giving the blue screen. Now this morning I decided to give it another chance, thinking I should get all the Windows Updates before I judge. But after getting errors trying to update the windows 11 version three times, this one is going back to Target. Bummer.

Not sure if it's linked to account, but when viewing this on ebay while logged in, I'm seeing a $50 off coupon to add, making it $601.

See my previous post:

61% sRGB and 45% RGB and DCI-P3 with a max of 327 nits brightness

If you are saying you care about screens, it's pretty bad. If you are someone that doesn't think about that kind of thing, it's functional.

You have to use klarna as a payment for that coupon to work.
