The interior is made up of 3 small parts that you can disassemble and throw in the top rack of your dishwasher to clean. There's also a cleaning procedure in the manual for purging the interior with hot water.
As for making iced coffee: this machine EXPECTS you to have ice in the cup when using it in iced coffee mode. What it does is it slows down the brewing significantly so that the coffee comes out extra concentrated. As it goes in your mug, it melts the ice and dillutes the concentrated coffee to roughly the proper levels as normal coffee. It also reduces the amount of liquid going into your cup because it already expects your cup to be half full of ice (e.g. you set it to 8 oz of coffee, and it dispenses like 4 oz, melting the ~4 oz of ice to become 8 oz total of iced coffee).

For my house it works because I typically make drip coffee but enjoy the occasional ease of a K-Cup.
The water reservoir is super nice being able to fill it easily.
