Looks like an dedicated app is necessary. Is this standard with these kind of printers?

When I did a cursory look into label printers a few months ago, I think it was pretty standard. This was the brand I set aside as "get someday" because they let you use third party labels all you want.

It does have some subscription if you want to design labels in the app or use AI design, but it'll print anything you give it on any brand label you want.

Yes annoyingly so unless you pay up for a Brother or something like that. It's an issue because you can't print directly from ebay or whatever app, you have to save the label, then go open it manually within the random chinese printer app. If you're trying to be efficient this is a slowdown, and also an extra step that could increase likelihood of human error.

They have a web interface if you don't want to install the app.

I got a similar BT 4x6 label printer ("Hoorola") that comes with an app but I can print labels on it through my Macbook's native printer app. YMMV, of course.

If you're techy, you can setup a Cups server and turn any printer into a wireless or AirPrint printer. I got an old Zebra thermal printer that I use to print shipping labels from my phone using Cups. My phone just finds the printer without any third party apps to run.

What's the name of the app you're referring to when you say "Macbook's native printer app"? Are you talking about "Printers & Scanners"?

Yes, and it prints from Chrome, Word, etc. Only 4x6, of course, but it seems to be plugged in to just about everything that has a print function. I use it to print mailing labels from Pirate Ship in Chrome.

would you recommend this printer? I am starting a shop at etsy and will start on some other platforms as well. Are these good?

If you're referring to the "Hoorola," yes, I'd recommend it, as it's been reliable and very easy to use so far. But if I didn't have it already, I'd buy the one in this deal because, for about the same price, it has a touchscreen and a roller for the labels, which mine doesn't have. I can't speak for the quality but I assume it's as good as any of these generic printers.
