If you want to see how a bunch of the new receivers only put out ~30 watts when they go into a secret 'limp mode' with no indication that you are not getting the 135wpc you paid for......
Even if you forget and leave the internal amps on, the heatsink fans will never come on because they are not actually under load.

The 30wpc that you are currently getting from the receiver seems loud, but you are missing out on the dynamic peaks that can be 100w, even on moderate volume movie watching.

The Monolith 7 channel amp is mainly a headroom and expansion piece for home theater setups, especially when an AVR is hitting low power limits or needs extra channels. It can run cool, add dynamics, and help with future Atmos or 7.2.4 upgrades, while some setups barely change because the receiver already has enough power. The main cautions are reported hum on some units, a two prong power cord, and occasional compatibility quirks. It fits best when the system truly needs external amplification.
Common Questions (5)
Some units reportedly have a faint hum that can persist even after replacement, while others are silent from normal listening distance. Standby behavior also varies in reports: one measurement showed about 38W when turned off, while another setup showed 0W on standby and about 100W in operation.
It can help when the AVR is current-limited into low-impedance loads, because the external amp can supply more headroom and preserve dynamic peaks. For typical listening levels, though, several comments say the difference may be small unless your speakers are hard to drive or you listen very loudly.
Yes. The Denon 4300 can use amp assign or pre-outs to feed an external amp, but it does not have dedicated independent preamp mode; the 3800 does, which makes it more useful if you want to offload selected channels and reduce heat or power draw.
For normal movie listening at comfortable levels, 90WPC is usually enough, especially with moderately sensitive speakers and a subwoofer. Several comments note that many setups never approach the power where this amp matters, and that the bigger gains often come from room correction, speaker choice, or adding subs.
Yes. It is only a power amplifier, so it needs a preamp or AVR with pre-outs for volume control, input switching, and source management; it does not provide turntable or CD inputs on its own.

D&M cost more because they offer more and believed to be higher/better quality.
People like to pay extra for "peace of mind" but it's not a benefit if you don't use it.
Especially when it comes to Dirac, you "pay to play" even to have access to play.
Did it come with the 12v turn on wires, or did you have to supply your own?
I would suggest returning it especially if you're considering moving up to Atmos.
It is costly to do properly.
That's no surprise.

Bad advise rob, and you are no superman. ๐

I do notice increased volume from the rear facing drivers, which is nice.
Waiting on everyone to leave the house to re-do the Audyssey setup.
Only power cables are provided. I also noticed that there is no 12V trigger for the main zone on my receiver. Only for zones 2 and 3.
The amp was warm to touch in the morning after being on standby overnight, but kill-a-watt shows no power draw.

Good high current amps should "sound" neutral to those who are not blessed with "golden ears". You'll easily notice the difference vs inferior amps if you have low impedance complex phase angle speakers (less than 3.5 ohm below 150 Hz). I would definitely keep the amp if it comes with +900VA transformer and +60000 microfarad main filter capacitors. Suspect no Japanese capacitors (Panasonic, United Chemicon, Rubycon, Nichicon, etc) inside at this price.
There is some current going into the amp if it is still warm overnight. Suspect your meter is bad, or something else is keeping the amp from going into sleep mode. Modern amps don't need more than 0.5 W in standby mode. You can check the power draw by connecting an ammeter in series to the AC line and measure the current. Multiply the current (A) by 120 (V) to obtain incoming power in WATT. The amp is rated at 1200 W per the posted picture.

I'll contact Monoprice to see if they'll swap it. Anyone else having the same issue, please post.
I wonder why the 1200W rating. 90*7 = 630 W. Rated at nearly double. ๐ค
So if you "really need one", this "barely" made a difference.
Imo you're still going to need another amp to make more of a difference(over 135wpc).
Yes that will be costly.
Hey, but what do I know with my common sense logic!
Apparently I'm clueless, vendor, salesman, lousy, idiot, pretty sure I missed a few.
May I make a final good "advise".
Put me on ignore & if I respond to another one of your comments just ignore it.
It will help with all these pointless post.
Good luck!
lol well if you do, I know you we NEED a new AVR.

Good luck!
The reason I will really need an amp is not necessarily for more power, but when the receiver has only 7 or 9 channels of amplification but processes and has pre outs for more channels. It does not have to be costly.
Nothing personal here. Just discussing AVRs and amps.

Long term listening at sound pressure level (SPL) greater than 80 dB will result in permanent hearing damage. The SPL at 3m (10ft) with a pair of moderately sensitive 87 dB speakers and 90W speaker input is 100 dB, This 20 dB headroom (100 minus 80) is ideal for uncompressed recording/soundtrack. The SPL drops to 95 dB with 30W speaker input. You'll definitely hear the difference between 30W and 90W input if the nominal listening level is 80 dB and the recording material contains wide dynamic range soundtrack.
A listening position that's 15 ft away will require 200W speaker input to reach the same sound pressure level attained at 10 ft. Use the links below to calculate the theoretical and nominal SPL level at your listening position.

If you are not using zone 2 or 3, then I guess turn one of them on just for the 12v trigger to your new amp.
