These Sunnecko knives are positioned as low cost everyday cutters, with sharp blades and a pakkawood handle that can feel like a solid value for basic kitchen use. The larger version has been praised as a favorite, and the knives have enough positive feedback to draw interest. The main concern is the blade finish, which is repeatedly called faux Damascus or laser engraved rather than real layered steel. That makes the decorative pattern feel misleading, even if the knife still cuts. A budget pick with a flashy finish, but not much confidence in the Damascus claim.

Common Questions (3)

  • The blade is described as laser engraved, not Damascus pattern, and the surface pattern is reported to be faux-Damascus rather than layered steel. It can still cut, but the decorative finish is for appearance rather than true Damascus construction.

  • They can be a decent value if you want a sharp inexpensive knife, and one owner of a prior deal was pleased with the knives themselves. A caveat is that some buyers found the quality disappointing and even had returns refunded without sending the knife back.

  • The listing has over 100 reviews and one shopper said the reviews looked very good. That said, the comments also flag concerns about the faux-Damascus finish and overall build quality.

I know my steels and only buy VG10 last ridiculously long time before I need to sharpen on my fine German real carat diamond hone.
And then it depends on a quality tempering. I'm not sure there is any Chinese factory which consistently demonstrates it can do it properly.

Dude, when someone is looking for a 13-thousand-dollar car, don't tell them to buy a better car for 150-thousand-dollar car. They's a reason why they are looking at a $13k price car. Get real and be considerate. Be helpful but don't talk like you know sheit.

I own expensive and inexpensive knives (Global, Shun, Miyabi, Zwilling, Kyocera, Cutco, Mercer, Cuisinart, Zyliss, Benchmade, Cold Steel, Morakniv, Fiskars, etc). My most used daily knives are Zyliss paring and Global utility and they are both sharp. I will say sharp inexpensive knives are 50 times better than dull expensive knives.

You don't need an expensive knife to prepare better tasting food. If you keep your good value knives sharpened, they will perform the way your expect and make food prep easy and thus cooking becomes more enjoyable.
I agree with this 100%. JUst Spend 3x or 10x As Much Guy has to make an appearance in most threads here though. I was a working chef and later a restaurant manager for many years. My personal kitchen knives include a bunch of well-respected brands. My main go-to, daily use knives are Winco though, because there's nothing wrong with them. That said, this knife here is a fraud, with it's faux Damascus pattern. I'm sure it cuts, but there are numerous better value knives available, too.

Not everyone has the disposable cash ($20,000) to commission Tsukasa Hinoura to personally design and build a personal edition kitchen knife.
I did not suggest anything like that, so don't put stupid words in my mouth to make whatever BS argument you are working toward. I pimp Winco knives here all the time (and Mercer, Victorinox, etc.) because they're budget-minded, durable, sharpenable, and just work great, so get out of here with that - I'm not that guy. But this knife is still crap. If this is your budget, you can find decent knives, but a low price doesn't necessarily make this a "good" budget knife.

Fake it till you make it!
I'll just continue to buy honest cheap stuff that is about performance and not all show, instead of dishonest BS.

I got in on one of the prior knife deals and have been quite pleased with the knives themselves, which I found to be a good value. However, I find the Damascus steel patterning a bit disingenuous and definitely for show

I think "completely fake" is a better descriptor than "a bit disingenuous," but you're right that's it's just for show.
