This reconditioned Ryobi 18V One Plus Whisper Series bucket top misting fan kit is built for portable cooling at sports, tournaments, and hot outdoor events. It includes the fan, hose adaptor, 1.5 amp hour battery, and charger, and it can run from a garden hose or a 5 gallon bucket. The pump and pivoting head help it throw a fine mist, and runtime can stretch to about 5 hours on a medium battery. A few practical notes stand out, including the need for a large enough jug opening, a possible control valve to avoid overwatering, and reports of occasional dead misting or loud motor issues on reconditioned units.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can connect directly to a standard garden hose, so the included bucket is optional. The fan also has a pump and can draw water from a 5-gallon bucket if you want a portable setup.

  • Yes, as long as the opening is wide enough for the intake tube and fan to sit on top securely. Milk-jug-sized openings fit, while soda-bottle openings may be too small.

  • It can work very well with cold water, including frozen half-gallon jugs or an insulated bottle of ice water inside the bucket. Adding a control valve can help prevent it from pulling too much water, which otherwise can turn the mist into more of a shower.

  • Factory blemished items are described as carrying the full new-product warranty, while reconditioned units are believed to have only a one-year warranty. This deal is for a reconditioned unit, not a factory blemish.

  • A medium 18V battery can last at least about 5 hours, and 5 gallons of water can last all day. That makes it practical for long outdoor events like tournaments and holiday gatherings.

I put the end into an insulated gallon water bottle filled with ice water, kept it inside a 5-gallon bucket, and pulled the bucket in a wagon while I watched my daughter compete in the heptathlon at the Junior Olympics last July in Savannah, GA. It worked wonderfully! I didn't want to lug the bucket around with water because it slushed too much to my liking, plus that would have just been spraying warm water. I also modified the tube by installing a control valve; otherwise, it sucks in too much water, and instead of a fine mist, you end up getting a full-on shower.
Link to control valve that you like?

I forget what size the tube is but it looks something like this. Just gotta go to HD or Lowe's and get the right size.

Title says refurbished but description says reconditioned. The two are not the same. Which is it? Link isn't working on my phone to check. Edit: it finally worked. This is reconditioned, NOT refurb as title suggests. OP should fix title...
Pretty much means the same thing.

That is blemished vs reconditioned. You have an issue with refurbished vs reconditioned.

Factory blemish comes with the full warranty of a new product, reconditioned I believe it's just one year.

Yes, I am aware. Reconditioned and refurbished are essentially the same.

Factory Blemished is a new, never sold item with full manufacturer warranty.

Yes I know but someone stated basically they were the same thing they aren't, it's not obvious about the warranty unless you happen to click on it and notice. Quite frankly I don't see what you could possibly refurbish on one of these things.
It's an enclosed motor with no access for service, pushed into a plastic housing and the fan is friction pushed onto the post.

So maybe it's just the fact that it was sold frankly I've never seen a mark on a blemished one.

A user had an issue that my original post described it as "refurbished". I replied saying REFURBISHED and RECONDITIONED are essentially the same thing in terms of retail.

REFURBISHED/RECONDITIONED are not the same thing as "factory blemished" which I am quite aware of.

does this actually work well?
Misting works very well in a high temperature, low humidity areas like a desert.

Received my reconditioned one and misting function was dead upon first use. Motor made a terrible and LOUD noise and water just dripped out of the misting nozzles (on low and high setting). Obviously they dont test these before marking as reconditioned or this would have been easily caught. Going through the return process now...fun (seems they will refund everything including shipping, but cannot just replace the unit).
