I've heard horrible things about these refurb units. Look at the Walmart site, and those come right from Midea. People get them and they smell like cigs, dusty, gross... not worth it when you have to pay return shipping.

Buyer beware.

I just got this unit from Costco though new for 375. It does kick ass.

You don't have to pay return shipping for items that have a defect/ don't work / smell of smoke (smelling of smoke especially if you state you are allergic does not count as a cosmetic issue), that's the reason buying from eBay via certified refurbished is better than from the manufacturer as a third party seller elsewhere. (It's also listed as "Free shipping & returns" on the listing as well as "pristine" condition.)

If you have a usage case where you need a portable unit this is an incredible deal. (Do note perspective user that portable units are not as efficient as window shakers or mini splits so for sizing purposes think of this as a 10,000 BTU unit.)

These come right from midea too. You are right though. It's a crap shoot. Some report perfect units. Others don't. But with free returns and a 2y warranty you have some protection, although the process could be annoying if so.

Offer of $212 was accepted within minutes. Will give a try. In my experience with these warranties, they just pay out instead of fixing them anyway.
