I have a few of these. They're neat for some games, but on the Switch they're practically useless because the d-pad movements don't register even in metroidvania style games.

FYI, I no longer have this controller but I did at one point. You can 'remap' the D pad to pretend it is an analog, according to google AI this is the method

"To remap the D-pad on your 8BitDo Zero (or Zero 2) controller to function as an analog stick, hold Select + D-Pad Left for 5 seconds. The LED will blink red to confirm the D-pad is now emulating the left analog stick. [1, 2]
To map the D-pad for different functions or reset it, use these button combinations: [1, 2, 3]
  • Left Analog Stick: Press and hold Select + D-Pad Left for 5 seconds.
  • Right Analog Stick: Press and hold Select + D-Pad Right for 5 seconds.
  • Reset to Default D-Pad: Press and hold Select + D-Pad Up for 5 seconds. [1, 2]
Note: The LED will flash red when a successful map has been set. You must manually reset the D-pad back to normal using the up combination if you want to switch back. [1]
Are you trying to map this controller for a specific game, emulator, or device (like a PC, Switch, or iOS device)? I can help with further remapping steps if needed."

FWIW, I was having this same issue last night with my Shanwan Q36 (very similar in concept) and used their method, afterwards analogs worked perfectly via the D-pad (of course as pure on / off inputs)
