This EliteBook 845 G9 stands out as a sturdy, business class 14 inch laptop with a Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U, 32GB of DDR5, and easy upgrade paths for both memory and SSD. The chassis gets praise for solid build quality, and the 680M graphics are strong enough for older games and everyday development work. Battery life is the main limitation, with the 38Wh pack and refurbished condition making long unplugged use less certain. The display also draws criticism for being dim and dull, though replacement panels and dock support are straightforward. A capable, upgrade friendly machine if battery and screen quality are not the priority.

  • The RAM and SSD can be upgraded or swapped for higher capacity configurations.

  • The chassis is sturdy and well built, which supports long-term daily use.

  • The display can be improved by replacing the panel with a higher-nit option for better color.

  • The laptop can be used with multiple Thunderbolt docks and dual-boot setups without reported issues.

  • The built-in display can feel too dim or dull, which may require a panel replacement.

  • Battery life can be limited, and the 38Wh battery size suggests you should not expect all-day runtime.

  • Refurbished condition can include battery wear, such as a battery showing only 80% capacity.

  • Refurbished units can arrive with hardware defects like a dead pixel, requiring a return for a refund.

Yes, the RAM can be upgraded up to 64GB, as already mentioned in the description. The SSD can be swapped too.

I bought the same computer from another seller on ebay in mid 2024 but with 16GB and 256GB SSD. Have upgraded to 32GB and 1TB SSD. Sturdy and well built. Display is too dim and dull for my taste so I replaced it with a 400NIT panel with better color gamut (cheap and easy to do). Even plays most older games at decent settings. Remember to disable the Windows feature to reduce color gamut while on battery for better color.

Can you share which screen you replaced it with? Higher res?

Same resolution.

BOE NE140UM-N62. https://www.panelook.com/NE140WUM...51146.html

There are others that are similar that will work. This one has the connector in a slightly different location so the cable routing was not the same as the original but it works. I'm sure you can find one with the right connector location. I'm very happy with the result. Make sure to install the AMD graphics drivers to ensure correct panel settings are used by Windows. I dual boot Fedora 44 KDE and everything works as expected.

Edit: I also used it with a Dell TB16 Thunderbolt 3 dock, a HP G2 TB3 dock, and a newer Dell TB4 dock in my office. No issues.

Does anyone have experience buying refurbished laptops from eBay? I'm concerned about the quality and remaining life of the battery. I'd be purchasing this laptop for my soon-to-be 7th grader and I want him to be able to get through a day of school without having to charge it, if that's even possible.

Honestly, it's one of the things that stood out to me. It lasts a good amount of time, I just haven't really timed it...
