Lotsa people love these but mine got dull, chipped, dinged, dented edge very very quickly. Seemed like the steel was inferior or not hardened.

The issue with their hatchets is they don't come pre-sharpened and you have to spend a considerable amount of time sharpening and because it's a single machined piece, every bit of every swing goes straight into my arm

I'd rather snap a two-piece in half then use a single piece metal axe

Have one of these and use it with a piece of wood as a baton to chop wood safely without having to swing the hatchet. Great for about 99% of my car camping situations.

I bought one of the many years ago and while I love the build and the look of it I just do not find that many uses for it. Maybe a nice last resort weapon in the truck but have found little use for work around the house or camp. I think the main downside is heft is just not there for hammer or axe use. The hammer face is also vary thin and small.

Serious question.. Do people even use hatchets anymore? Other than for a murder weapon, I can't think of a single task that another tool can't do better.

I use when I need to delicately chop up tree roots that are blocking access to a buried sprinkler water supply line IOT fix/replace broken parts.

Using a large axe would easily damage the PVC pipe that is just underneath the tree root.

Exactly. I have one and I would call it a nice piece of crap. It is definitely not hardened. I know you can sharpen it but you shouldn't have to with normal use

Hatchet is good for cutting limbs and sometimes splitting wood. Axe is for cutting down tress and sometimes splitting wood but chainsaw is better. Maul is best for splitting wood manually. Right tool for the job. Just my experience from Scouting.

Right, the murder part is incidental.

Estwing is the hammer of choice for geologists. Not sure about their axes but the metal is strong.
