I struggled with these ones. I don't know much about plants and what makes one healthier than another, but I lost several of these in the first year. The ones I got from Lowe's just seem more robust and healthy. I ended up replacing the ones that died with ones from Lowe's the following season, and they are holding strong. These were cheap at least, and some are still alive. Just my 2 cents.

These Thuja Green Giant arborvitae are valued as a fast growing privacy tree with dense evergreen foliage and a strong price for the size. The deal works out to about $8.63 per plant with free Prime shipping, far below higher priced nursery options. Growth can be quick once established, but starting from 1 to 2 foot plants means privacy may take years, and smaller trees can struggle early. The comments also flag deer damage, snow load, fire risk in dry areas, and the need for watering and timing the planting carefully. A practical pick if you can wait for them to fill in.
Common Questions (5)
Growth is commonly estimated at about 1 to 3 feet per year, depending on conditions and care. Starting from 2-foot plants, privacy can still take years; one timeline puts full size at roughly 20 years, while another says 4-5 years only gets them just above a 6-foot fence.
Container-grown arborvitae can be planted any time of year if they are kept watered and mulched. If you cannot water them regularly, keeping them in pots until fall is the safer approach.
No, they can be heavily browsed by deer and may be eaten down to the trunks over winter. Several plants were reported lost after deer damage, so they are not a reliable choice where deer pressure is high.
They are a poor choice for fire-prone areas because they can burn very quickly. One warning described them as going up like a roman candle.
The deal price is $69.06 for the 8-pack, which works out to about $8.63 per plant. Prime shipping is free; otherwise shipping is $22.49, and some locations may not be eligible to ship due to local laws or Amazon policy.
