This is one of those products that's much cheaper to buy before you desperately need it. Nice price to keep a bottle in the garage.

Of course, knowing Amazon, they will package this with food, and not put one of those leak stoppers in there.

Bayer makes some pretty good stuff in general, so it's not bad to have. One of the active ingredients in this broadleaf weed killer is 2,4-D. You can just buy 2,4-D by itself, and use in a pump sprayer to have a good weed killer, and for much cheaper.

I have bermuda grass, so please do some reading on what you should use, don't just hit it with chemical because some internet rando said it was a good deal.

I have the 'southern ag' 2,4-D in concentrate, so I am pretty sure I have a lifetime supply of it (assuming it doesn't have a shelf life, which I'm sure it does...). It was roughly $25 from the online book store.

AI sez:

Based on scientific consensus and the U.S. EPA Ecological Risk Assessments [epa.gov], environmental harm is generally ranked from lowest to highest as follows: [1 [healthandenvironment.org]]

1. Glyphosate (Lowest Impact)
  • Soil & Water: Binds tightly to soil, greatly reducing groundwater contamination risk, though it breaks down slowly in water.
  • Aquatic/Wildlife: Practically non-toxic to birds and insects. However, some formulated products (which include surfactants) can be moderately toxic to aquatic invertebrates. [1 [nih.gov], 2 [consumernotice.org], 3 [ehn.org], 4 [nih.gov], 5 [mit.edu]]
2. Tenacity (Moderate Impact)
  • Soil & Water: The active ingredient, mesotrione, is highly mobile in soil and has a high potential for groundwater leaching and surface runoff. [1 [sciencedirect.com], 2 [sciencedirect.com]]
  • Aquatic/Wildlife: Poses low to moderate risk to fish and aquatic invertebrates, but can be highly harmful to certain non-target aquatic plants. [1 [sciencedirect.com], 2 [epa.gov], 3 [epa.gov]]
3. 2,4-D (Highest Impact)
  • Soil & Water: Highly soluble and prone to drifting, runoff, and volatilization, leading to greater contamination of neighboring crops and waterways. [1 [earthjustice.org], 2 [frontiersin.org]]
  • Aquatic/Wildlife: Indiscriminate in its harm to vertebrates and plants. While salt forms are safer, ester formulations of 2,4-D are classified as highly toxic to fish and aquatic life.

I have about a 4k sq ft yard and have an 8oz container of the generic Tenacity, mesotrione ($30 amazon). 2-3 TSP per gallon of water sprayer lasts me 5 years, with spot spraying 2-3 times a year (it's a weed killer with out killing fescue grass, and also a pre-emergent weed killer)

I've got a 42oz container of 41% glyphosate (roundup equiv) container ($20 tractor supply), with 3 TBLS per gallon of water sprayer, lasts me 3-4 years with spot spraying 3-4 times/yr. It's great for controlling bamboo, and also inhibits any tree trunks growth that you have cut down. It kills weeds with a few applications where killing grass is not an issue. It will kill grass.

For both of the above, spot spray, wait 10-14 days to see what happens, and then go over what you missed.
