Community Reviews
The Action 5 Pro is a rugged action camera that stands out for low light shooting, built in storage, and longer recording time. It also supports better 10 bit D Log M footage and can connect two microphones at once, which helps for post work and two person interviews. The camera can be used without the app, though app registration may be needed first. The main hesitation is upgrade value from the Action 4, since daytime footage is already strong and the newer gains matter most in darker scenes or specialized shooting.
Common Questions (4)
It is worth upgrading if you shoot in low light, use 10-bit D-Log M and edit in post, or need dual wireless mic support. For normal daytime footage, the Action 4 already performs well, so the built-in storage and longer recording time may not justify the jump.
It can be used without the app for normal camera operation. The app may only be needed for initial registration under an email, so you do not have to rely on it for everyday shooting.
The main gains are better low-light performance, improved 10-bit D-Log M footage, built-in storage, longer recording time, and support for two mics at once. The Action 4 only supports one mic and may be the better value if you mainly shoot in good lighting.
The Action 4 has survived tumbles and deep saltwater use while still working, which suggests the Osmo Action line is built for abuse. That makes it a practical choice for water sports and rough handling, though the comment specifically describes the Action 4 rather than the 5 Pro.

With all that said, its not worth going from the 4 to 5 Pro.
Also, look around for deals on the Xtra Edge Pro. it's the same device with a different color scheme. i bought mine brand new/sealed on FB marketplace for $120.
