- The UI for your configuration is excellent. I can manage both my UDMSE and her Dream Router in the same app on my phone and the website. With just a click/tap I can jump between. I can also manage the devices directly across my LAN without going through Ubiquity's website, just by going to the Dream Router's local IP. They are constantly ading new features via OS updates.
- Setting up VLANs is really easy for segregating IoT devices from my high value targets, like my laptop that does my taxes/investing/banking, then another VLAN for cameras (rstp streaming so it all stays in my LAN and never goes to a third party cloud, like Ring, all managed my open-source "frigate" software), and another VLAN called "Isolation." That VLAN is blocked form Internet. Things like smart TVs go on Isolation so they can never. ever, talk to Internet, removing all the security problems they introduce--but they can still talk on the isolation LAN so I can put an image/stream of camera images when someone comes to the front door. Really easy to do all that as opposed to things like PfSense with the TPLink managed 24 port switch which was what I used to have. Setting up VLANs on those made me pull my hair out.
- I am able put my entire house in Switzerland, or anywhere else your VPN provider goes (I use Proton). I set up a VLAN that I dedicated to that VPN and any device that joins that VLAN via wifi or ethernet is instantly (*poof*), "transported to" Switzerland.
- Easy to set up site-to-site VPN tunnels between her Dream Router and my USMSE so she can leverage my pi-hole servers and encrypted DNS through Quad 9 so advertisements are blocked along with telemetry/screen shot/ and other intrusive data collection by IoT devices (like Roku/Amazon Firesticks) are blocked. The DNS queries that don't get blocked get encrypted before they leave the house so snoopy Comcast cannot monitor our DNS requests (doing that will require a separate box to be a server to run those things (pi-hole for the ad-blocking and Unbound for the encrypted DNS-over-TLS. Both are free/open source software but you will need a separate PC to run them on. As is docker and Ubuntu Linux for them to run on top of. All you need for this is an old PC that is too old to run Windows anymore or one of those little box mini-PCs I see advertised on Slickdeals all the time). If you are going to get into all that, be warned--if will be a time commitment to get it all going but then you have created a self-contained, privacy themed, infrastructure.
- If you live in a state that has sales tax (my sales tax rate it 10.25%) buy it through BHPhoto.com and use their Payboo credit card. Payboo will pay your sales tax and BH will usually price match over their little chat window.
Point is, tons of feature and flexibility for not much more money--and they do something TPLink never does--they patch vulnerabilities! I get updates for the Ubiquity boxes 1-2 times/month, both for security patches and for UI/OS improvements. It's a whole new world that actually makes administration of your network(s) fun.
