These English lavender seeds are best understood as a slow, finicky start for gardeners willing to baby them. Lavender is described as hard to grow from seed, with strong results tied to cold stratification before planting, while direct sowing is reported to produce little or nothing. Germination ranges from near zero to about 50 percent, though one stratified batch reached roughly 90 percent. Blooming can take around 18 months, and the packet is worth extra caution because of reports of fake reviews and occasional wrong seeds.
Cold stratification can enable strong lavender germination when seeds are kept damp and refrigerated before planting.
Stratification can improve germination even for older seed batches, reaching around a 50% rate.
Lavender seeds may bloom roughly 18 months after planting when germination and growth succeed.
Lavender can be easier to propagate from cuttings than from seed, which may help if seed starting fails.
Lavender seeds can show near-zero germination without cold stratification, making direct sowing ineffective.
Some plantings can produce no lavender at all, including reports of none sprouting or ending up with only petunias.
Germination can be extremely poor, with reports of only about one seed sprouting after a month.
Seed packets may contain other seed types, which can lead to unexpected plants instead of lavender.

Long ago I decided to start a garden. I still lived in an apartment so it was a potted garden. One seed packet I bought were jalapeno's. I put seeds in 3 pots from that packet. They all grew something! Easily the best year I've ever had growing from seeds, now I get weeds if I'm lucky. Back to the story. Two grew some jalapeno plants, which gave me 3 small peppers in total. One grew into what was called a jaltomato plant, which is neither a jalapeno or a tomato. Little round black berries. Edible and extremely mild in flavor. Gave me quite a few nearly tasteless berries. I could have made a small amount of jam if I had tried.
