These English lavender seeds are best understood as a slow, finicky start for gardeners willing to baby them. Lavender is described as hard to grow from seed, with strong results tied to cold stratification before planting, while direct sowing is reported to produce little or nothing. Germination ranges from near zero to about 50 percent, though one stratified batch reached roughly 90 percent. Blooming can take around 18 months, and the packet is worth extra caution because of reports of fake reviews and occasional wrong seeds.

  • Cold stratification can enable strong lavender germination when seeds are kept damp and refrigerated before planting.

  • Stratification can improve germination even for older seed batches, reaching around a 50% rate.

  • Lavender seeds may bloom roughly 18 months after planting when germination and growth succeed.

  • Lavender can be easier to propagate from cuttings than from seed, which may help if seed starting fails.

  • Lavender seeds can show near-zero germination without cold stratification, making direct sowing ineffective.

  • Some plantings can produce no lavender at all, including reports of none sprouting or ending up with only petunias.

  • Germination can be extremely poor, with reports of only about one seed sprouting after a month.

  • Seed packets may contain other seed types, which can lead to unexpected plants instead of lavender.

That said, stratification is not THAT difficult. Easier than working from cuttings if you're not in a rush.
Agreed.

I got about 50% germination rate from my old-ish seed when using stratification. Good enough for me when the seeds are so small and cheap.

I have a hard time believing posts like this.

178TU. There are not that many active participants on this site regularly. Good deals regularly get maybe 50 TU. These are outlier posts.
Obviously being promoted by Paid SD Staff Influencers. Fake engagement comments like "This is still available"

Comments alluding to censorship.
comments about it having been cheaper recently
majority of the comments are about the mediocrity of experience or how this probably isn't the easiest way to plant lavender.

but somehow, top post of the week (I'm guessing)
Just make this an outright advertisement and quit with the hidden artificial boost

edit: 2 posts later, another Paid SD Staff Influencer pops up to add "This deal is still available" 🙄

Yeah I seen the thumbs up amount too. Totally unorganic because its not a real sale to be that crazy about. Its a packet of seeds, not ounces of seed in a plastic resealable package.

Thanks to everyone who commented. I've never tried to grow lavender from seed and a lot of the comments are super helpful!
Probably going to find some cuttings instead Smilie

They also bloom 18 months after planting. So 2028.

Lavender seeds need to be cold-stratified before they will germinate. To do this, place the seeds on a damp paper towel, seal them in a zip-top plastic bag, and refrigerate them for 3–4 weeks before planting.

Using this method, I achieved about a 90% germination rate. By comparison, sowing the seeds directly in soil without cold stratification resulted in a 0% germination rate.
too much work, just sprinkle it on the ground around winter. Also boiling water and let cool for fungus/mold.
