It seems to me that apple raised the price to create fomo so they could clear out retail inventory in anticipation of the new units in September.

Price to remain the same that is currently listed.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I dont think so. RAM and memory price increases are real and Apple decided to push the price difference to customers.

I got one right after they announced the price hike. Kind of mixed feelings: it works well for what it is, it's snappy, UI is fairly polished, no ads. Still quite a bit of money to drop to do what smart TV can do already with less lag. If you're super fed up with unresponsive TV UI, then get it, but if you're borderline, eh it's not life changing and ultimately was a bit of a FOMO purchase for me.
The one underrated feature I will mention though: you can force SDR mode at least for some streaming apps. While this might sound like a downgrade, a lot of TVs have HDR support but not high enough peak brightness for actual high quality HDR. What happens is the TV is super dark when playing HDR content and really only clearly viewable at night. SDR compresses that color range but makes the average brightness way brighter which looks good during daytime on a mid-range TV.
Lots of tradeoffs but my top priority is privacy. I trust Apple more than the average TV manufacturer for privacy and not misusing my viewing patterns. I like to plug one of these in, update the TV firmware, then disconnect the TV from internet. I will absolutely not accept all 9 agreements to analyze and sell my viewing habits on my Samsung Sony Hisense after I create my Vizio Fire account

I remember the time the 128gb was $99 but most Costcos were out of stock then.
I bought for $99 (ethernet 128GB) and returned it 6 months later thinking new one is coming out. One of my admittedly few dumb decisions.

unlikely. They bumped the price across almost their entire product lineup including Vision Pro (which struggles to sell because $$$). They have been talking about price hike for a while now due to cost of components, and they finally did it.

I was able to get one at the end of Nov. 2025. I actually checked because I thought this price to be high. I am aware of Apple's recent price H(Y)IKES. Ethernet only for our needs but compared to Fire Cubes supposedly 6GHz, 128GB is very fast.

Nope 64GB was on sale for $99 and 128GB for $129
Wrong! 128gb was $99! It was limit 2 per order. You could place as many orders that you like, which I did for all my tvs. These are the best cable boxes for optimum online if you have the triple play life time plan which i have. $95 for life with autopay discount includes taxes too. Silver cable tv, 1 gig internet and Ip phone. Saves on rental stream boxes from optimum and these are buttery smooth unlike the stream box from optimum! The ethernet option on the apple tv is where it shines. It's fast as hell and no stuttering at all.
