To be fair this is a little more ninja ninja than Mall ninja, and it's cheap enough to be practical if you want just something sharp around the house aka a beater. I had gotten a $10 off $20 deal on new Prime membership trial so got the Leatherneck tanto for like 12 bucks , at that price..

Yep. Tantos are pretty much only good for stabbing things, boxes included. A 3.25" fixed blade is going to take up a lot of space, though. I'd just go with a cheaper box cutter where you can use just enough blade to open the box without damaging what is inside.
