I don't know what makes a "good" dead blow hammer. For occasional DIYer use, I have a Harbor Freight one.
The Harbor Freight 16oz dead blow hammer [harborfreight.com] is regularly priced at $7.99 (ITC members can currently get it for $3.99).

FYI Gearwrench has two hammer sets https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH...B0GMP8HCZ4 and https://www.amazon.com/GearWrench...B004RCWUX2 , these sometimes go on pretty decent sales and if you have use for the different hammer types it can be a better value than buying them individually
