The Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen is a compact Bluetooth speaker that stands out for strong sound, solid build quality, and easy portability. It is praised as especially good for backpacking and for parties, with clear highs and mids and bass that can become surprisingly big when placed near a wall or in a corner. The main knocks are that bass can feel light at normal placement, and the Bose app can be frustrating when pairing two speakers. At $99, it reads as a capable small speaker with a few tradeoffs.
Common Questions (5)
It sounds very good and is much less bulky than larger speakers like the Sony XB43, making it easy to take on long backpacking trips. Bass is solid for its size, and placing it near a wall or in a corner with a small gap can make the bass sound much stronger.
The Gen 1 certified refurbished model is $69.99, so the new Gen 2 costs about $30 more. That extra cost is justified for many shoppers if they want a brand-new unit and the newer generation.
Two speakers can be paired through the app, but the process can be unreliable and frustrating. The app may work well for long stretches and then fail when you need it quickly.
Both speakers have excellent build quality and sound very close overall. The Soundcore Motion 300 has boomier bass and a better EQ in its app, while the Bose emphasizes highs and mids.
The SE version without a mic is reportedly available at Costco warehouse for $80. That gives a lower-cost option if you do not need the microphone.

It'll work relatively well for long stretches, and then just absolutely suck sometimes. The app is really garbage and has never gotten better.
I really like the speakers when they work, but after having pairing issues many times when I really just needed them to work quickly, I'll never buy Bose wireless again.
