that's 20lbs, you can probably find a better price on a 20lb bag elsewhere than $17. for 5 lbs $4.90 is a good price.

Where can you find 20lbs for less than $17?

Probably Thailand or Vietnam, which is fine with me. Some Jasmine rice is produced in Louisiana, but I have read that is risky because of arsenic pollution.

I opted for 4 of the 2 lb bags which came to $7.44 after S&S. Maybe not as slick as getting 4x 5lb bags, but good enough for my needs.

Reject processed foods, choose brown rice instead. Your gut will thank you for the whole grain. Brown rice is best cooked in a pressure cooker/InstantPot.

bought this at the end of last year and had it stored in my pantry until a couple weeks ago when I was ready to use it. turns out the recent heat waves incubated the weevil eggs and they were crawling all over inside the package. sure it could happen to any brand but I'll spend a little more elsewhere

"Spending a little more elsewhere" won't alleviate the bug problem you experienced. It can happen to any variety/brand of any price.
On any larger volume of rice, where I expect to store it, I always first put it in the freezer for at least 4 days, then remove/thaw and seal/bag it, as the freezing process kills the dormant eggs.

Another reason to always rinse your rice. Amazon food packaging is the worst/cheapest. Plastic bags are filled with holes. At least when you buy bags in the store, you can check them for holes. Their lentils, too, but no critters, thankfully.
