https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFF9J47K This is super cheap, I've seen it close with different clippable discounts, but not this low (and this is tied with it's all time low on CCC).

I recently got this BODEGACOOLER 12V Portable Refrigerator, 42Quart (40L) Dual Zone Car Refrigerator, and put it though it's paces for three weeks in Florida earlier this year.

It's 42 quart dual zone (30 quart and 12.2 quart), you do NOT have to run both zones. So you could run it as a fridge and freezer or just a 30 quart fridge or even just a 12.2 quart fridge. I ran it with the smaller size as the freezer, big side as fridge. The other models I looked at were generally more equal in size between the two, with this the smaller one is more like 30% of the total size (and I didn't even need that much space for a freezer [a couple steaks/pork chops and some ice cream]).

It's a LOT of room when you don't have ice in there. The 34 quart model would be a good size too, and it probably uses less power since it's a smaller area (this 42 quart was a little tall, so sometimes I was digging around looking for stuff, I assume that's less of an issue for the 34 quart).

The wifi worked pretty good from the app, but I don't think it actually uses my network (just point to point), and I could check it from my tent or hotel room, which was convenient.

Previously, getting ice was always a hassle when camping in the middle of nowhere (and I always had wasted space from all the ice). I can run this from my car 12V (cigarette lighter) port. But I usually have my Jackery 1000 Plus plugged in the 12v and the Bodega plugged into the Jackery, so it's always got power even when I stop. I also have solar panels to plug into the Jackary if I'm camping without any power.

I thought it'd be great for camping and if I'm running out of power in my Jackery towards the end of a trip, I could switch it to the smaller zone/side for just my essentials. Normally, I had extra space in the freezer (it was just some steaks and pork chops), which was all water bottles, so I can use those as "ice" to keep either side cool. And if it's the end of the trip, I probably don't need those frozen foods any more as it's time to cook them.

If I stayed in a hotel, I just left the cooler in the car powered from the Jackery battery, and topped off the Jackery while I was packing up in the morning (driving was going to charge it too, but an outlet is way faster).

I was very happy with its usage (I kept it set at 34°F on the big side and 4°F-ish on the small side). I did a week just experimenting around with it while driving and on my Jackery. Then I used it with a with a 200W solar panel and that helped me get more time out of it (it didn't always charge it fully back up, but it was enough to probably give me 7 days instead of 3 (was in the heat in Florida) when in places with no power. I did just pick up some bigger 350W solar panels on Prime day, so I'm hoping this will be less of an issue in the future.

They make some smaller coolers too, same footprint, they just change the height (probably uses less power). Bodega makes a few different lines of these types of coolers. Some have dual zone, some do not. Some have wheels and some have lights inside. I haven't seen much info on which ones keep stuff cooler or run more efficiently though.

I picked this one for the smaller footprint, and for the zones not being the same size (there is no way I'd need 21 quart refrigerator and another 21 quarts for the freezer). I read the dual zones use more power, but that was a trade off that I thought was worth it and I can always turn one of the zones off (and now it's a 30 quart or 12 quart refrigerator. I also suspect dual zones use even more power because you're probably running one side as a freezer. In a non-dual zone, you probably don't run it at 4°F as everything would be frozen, but with a dual zone, I suspect people run one zone at freezing, which would use more power (because otherwise, they could get a single zone).

Used it while I slept in my van. It was whisper quiet, had no issues sleeping with it while it was running all.night.

Rather just buy a massive well insulated cooler and apply ice. In this economy.

Depends where you are and how often you use it. Ice is like 3-7 dollars a bag in the north east.

I have a similar one different name and I love it (they're all prob made in the same factory). Paired with solar panels and solar generator its awesome. I got about 10 hours of run time off of a 295wh. Also plugs into the car power port and runs until it detects one of three voltage setpoints you can choose- this was tested and worked- the fridge shut off after about 6 hours of run time and the truck started up no problems. After the initial 24h of leaving it upright after opening it I ran it for two weeks straight at home before taking it on trips. Freezer temps freeze, fridge temps cool. I used a fridgerator thermometer and found the internal temps to be a few degrees above what the LCD shows, but very much acceptable (just drop the LCD like 5 degrees lower than your ideal temp. Took it on a 6 day camping trip in 100degree weather and it stayed in the Suburban's trunk without issues, switching between solar battery and truck battery depending on weather, time of day. I was noting an average of 85w when running both zones but obviously the compressor doesn't run constantly, only when it needs to, so its not persistent draw. Turning off the smaller zone yielded a few extra hours of run time from my battery box. Its nice they can be controlled independently. Not sure if this one has an interior light in the large side, but the one I have does and its a nice feature. Get spare cables from Amazon just in case.

Anyone have one of these no name 12v coolers and use it for years? Was it reliable?

I can get a lot of ice where I am for the price difference of a cheap igloo, and there's tradeoffs otherwise to this vs a regular cooler.

I have a few, one since 2018. I've never had any issues with them. They are far better than using ice.

On a hot sunny day, locked in the car with the windows up (so extra hot), it would draw about 25W-32W (once in a while, I'd see low 40s) when it was on (34° and 7° on the two sides), but like a refridgerator, it's not running all the time. Depending on conditions, it'd use about 30% of my Jackery 1000 Plus per day.

I could charge on the 12V port on the car and also charge the Bodega at the same time and after a day of driving, it'd be topped off again.

When camping without power, I'd pull out the solar panels, and even at wooded areas or cloudy days, I could put 10-20% back in (I could do better if I kept moving them around). But that's just some initial tests, because once I was camping I'm charging other things and running the Starlink at night.

I just picked up some bigger 350W panels that are supposed to be better in low light, plus they have a lot more output (but they are bigger!)

And I just noticed a countdown clock on the Amazon page (I did not notice that before) and says it'll be ending in an hour and 11 minutes.

This is the lowest I've seen but it hits $360-$370-ish all the time with those clickable coupons, the probably is the deal monitoring sites don't factor those into alerts...

I jumped on it. The bougie rv deal is not bad, but it is absurdly small. It has its purpose. If you have a model y they make a small one they fits under the trunk area which is neat. These 42qt will eat up massive amounts of trunk space is smaller SUVs. It's tall too, so if you have a lower roof hight model, the door may not open fully.

Having two zone really expands options. Make ice for drinks, keep your food cold. I wonder how the compressor efficiency is when running only half a side.

If I have the back of the back seat tilted down (so no back seat), it's difficult to open the lid all the way when near the door, so it's hard to see in sometimes (usually only an issue if it's packed very full). But if I leave the back up, it doesn't sit as flat, I'm going to experiment more next trip.

I've only ever run both sides. When I'm camping if I've got power (from driving with the 12V or an outlet), I'll set the frozen side even colder (-4°ish)so that once I'm on battery that side is pretty cold already.

Got it, and like the other review concerns, mostly over the foam lid that does not make a seal.

However it is pretty well insulated compared to the bougeRV smaller unit. That one lforms condensation on the outside.

I really love the two compartments. Ice pops in one, cold drinks and snacks in the other.
