This is a good combo for folks who don't have access to a Micro Center (I'd prefer the 7500x3d combo for $350)... plus on this one is the dual-channel memory and free AIO cooler... plus, for productivity the 9600x is better, but I suspect most folks are looking at gaming potential more strongly...

It's not. This cpu is 180 new on Amazon and 16gb ddr5 is 200-220 not on sale. This is the most basic b650m board that's worth ~130. So you're not saving anything by buying this combo and you're stuck with these specific parts. 240mm AIOs are always on sale for ~30ish bucks.

The only reason to get this deal would be for the convenience

Well, an "equivalent" configuration picking the cheapest available parts right now comes out to $584, so it is both convenience and cheaper that what you could do buying new retail today... and this cheapest configuration has lesser parts than this combo IMHO...

I bought almost the same combo back in Black Friday week of 2025, the difference in the combo is the RAM brand. The one that I got was a TeamGroup 8GBx2 one.

I personally hate this B650 board. The VRM is too weak even for a 6 cores 65W CPU. The huge heatsink on the board is always >90 degree C when the CPU is at full speed. It keeps my little room warm during the winter but not so much fun in the summer. This B650 MATX board only offers auto overclocking the CPU via PBO. There is no way to set your own CPU Mhz. This board got a set of very weak VRM, I'd suggest not to use any CPU above 6 cores12 threads. The high end CPU like 7950x/9950x and all of its X3D ones will still run but it will be at a reduced speed because VRM is just too weak to power the CPU during the full load.

As someone who paid way too much for GPUs during the mining/covid shortages I would wait out the high RAM prices if you can.
