Battery chainsaws have come a long way. For trimming branches and cutting up fallen limbs around the yard, they're much quieter and easier to maintain than a gas saw.

i was originally skeptical about all electric/battery powered chainsaws. i bought a Ryobi and it did change my mind. Surprisingly useful. My only suggestion is to get the "high performance" batteries (And, chain oil). And, don't try to tackle the Redwood Forest. Work within the useful limits of the tool you have. i like the Ryobi 18v brushless chainsaw i own.

I really like mine, but I bought the 18" from a slickdeal 3-years ago, it started leaking chain oil by the end of the 1st season ( I only used it about 5 times for some small branches ) . I thought it was just the normal excess on the chain.

It got a little worse for light usage during year 2.

it still runs, I used it a week ago, but it leaks chain oil really badly now. I haven't had time to find out if it is worth getting it repaired or just throwing it out.

I have a 1/2 acre and use this for the branches that come down and cut-up to burn in a bonfire.
