If you are flexible then you can easily find better prices elsewhere. Costco just has certain specific novelties that are unique to them and their very liberal return policy definitely makes shopping there much nicer. Also goes without saying that their gas prices are the best around for premium gas.
But we shouldn't pretend like buying exorbitant amounts of goods unless you're explicitly shopping for a family of 6+ is better than just getting individual goods at same or cheaper prices elsewhere.

I wish they allowed the promotional GC to be used on gas. For people who don't shop at a Costco and buy membership mainly for Gas or online orders, it would be nice. I remember getting a $40 GC 3 years ago and took a print at the gas station but was unable to use it. And then i forgot about it until my membership expired.

It showed my old membership number that expired 23mo ago so I updated it to the new membership number that is currently active -- that way I can place online orders and use Costco Wallet from their app in stores with my new membership
