I'm personally extremely happy with my SC3 and the software reliability. That said if I was limiting myself to $1000 I would purchase a VNM wheel base that had telemetry FFB and add the USB passthrough so I could use whatever wheel I wanted without wires.
Take this information and use it if you want. I know there are a thousand opinions out there. The SC2 is an amazing base and will be very reliable with great software. Just research telemetry FFB and if it's something you would enjoy or not.
