Even with risers, when it was 100°+ outside it could not keep a fridge full of cold food below 60° when set at 38. That is with the AC in the car on, but the car in the sun.
If you are going to use it in extreme heat the subtrunk won't work.
Community Reviews
BougeRV's 23 quart 12 volt car refrigerator stands out as a compact travel fridge for road trips, tailgating, camping, and keeping drinks, formula, or even insulin cold without ice. It chills quickly, holds around 32 to 37 degrees in real use, and can run for hours from a small battery or a vehicle power source. The main caution is airflow, especially in a Model Y sub trunk, where keeping the lid open or using risers matters and extreme heat can hurt performance. It is also heavy, lacks a built in battery, and a few long term reliability issues were reported.
Common Questions (5)
It can work in a Model Y sub-trunk, but airflow matters a lot. Several users report success in 90°F+ weather and even all-day parking in the sun when the trunk lid is kept open or risers/gaps are used; others say a closed, enclosed sub-trunk can trap heat and hurt cooling, especially in extreme heat.
A small 300W battery reportedly runs it for 8+ hours, and Model Y owners note the 18V accessory plug can be set to stay on continuously. It also draws low power in real use, so it can handle road trips and day-long outings when paired with a suitable power source.
Yes. Users report it holding around 32°F to 37°F, chilling drinks quickly on 110V, and keeping items cold on road trips, in garages, and even during a blackout for insulin storage. It is also used for formula bottles, dairy, soda, and water without needing ice.
This version does not have a built-in battery, so it needs external power or a separate battery pack. The CRPro version is mentioned as having upgraded compressor and small tie-down locations, which is why some buyers chose it instead.
It is better suited to day trips, road trips, and smaller loads than large family camping hauls. One user fit eight 28oz Gatorades and five 16oz waters upright, but another noted that even a 40L cooler can be full for a 2-day family camping trip, so capacity may be tight for bigger groups.

So far, it's performing exactly as I hoped. I'll be using it on road trips in my Tesla, and based on my experience so far, I have loved it.
