So a computer without wifi can connect to WiFi networks. Usually it's desktop computers that don't always come with wifi hardware.

Lots of computers don't have built in wifi. If you have a refurb or used business machine like Dell, HP, Lenovo, or the small mini formfactor PCs, they only have LAN inputs. In fact, none of my 7 computers/servers have built in wifi, only my laptop does.

A lot of desktops do not have wifi, so you would plug this in instead of having to route an ethernet cable.

Based on the reviews, it doesn't seem like it's plug and play for Linux. But sounds like some people got it to work.

I configured my home wifi network to only allow WPA3 access. I also have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 that still works fine as a tablet but the built-in wifi module does not support WPA3. This device could help me get the Surface Pro 3 back online.

But I wouldn't use TP-Link products on my home network either.

My built-in Intel chipset wifi card constantly drops out even with the latest drivers. This should help.

Can this be something to use on an older Smart TV? I think mine is 2020 and cannot connect to 5G Internet.

No, you cannot use the TP-Link Archer T3U directly on a TV. It is exclusively designed for Windows and Mac computers. TVs lack the necessary operating system to install the required driver software.
