The LG gram 17 stands out as a very light, long battery life 17 inch laptop for productivity, travel, and general use. The Lunar Lake Core Ultra 7, 32GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD make it feel like a strong generalist machine, and the integrated graphics can handle light gaming and even some older or less demanding titles at lower resolutions. The big tradeoff is the display, which is only 60Hz and 320 nits, so brightness and gaming smoothness are not its strengths. It is best suited to portable work, not high resolution gaming.

  • Traveling professionals who need a large-screen workstation, because it stays light, lasts all day, and handles productivity apps comfortably.

  • Strategy-game players who are fine lowering resolution, because the integrated graphics can run lighter titles smoothly and AAA games at reduced settings.

  • Mobile traders who want a roomy display for charts, because the CPU is strong for everyday productivity and the laptop stays portable.

  • People replacing a heavy 17-inch machine, because this one is much easier to carry while still offering a big screen.

  • Gamers who want high-resolution play, because the integrated graphics struggle at the native QHD screen resolution.

  • People who spend all day on bright screens, because the display is only 320 nits and can feel dim in daily use.

  • Shoppers who want a gaming laptop, because this model is explicitly positioned as a general-purpose machine instead of a gaming rig.

  • Competitive shooter players, because the integrated graphics are not suited to demanding online AAA games.

Considering this laptop for my needs, which is for trading using Trading View on the go. I have an RTX 5090 at home and a Lenovo legion go S, so not really needing for gaming. Anyone have any valuable input as to why this is a good or bad choice? My budget can be higher, but I care about value.
i'm in need of a portable reading machine too! you think this is good? best buy open box can be faulty no?

Best Buy has lowered prices on this by 8-10%: $902.99 Excellent, $851.99 Good, and $811.99 Fair. (FYI: If you get My Best Buy Plus Annual Membership for $30, it extends your return period to 60 days vs 14 days -- helpful for open box items......)

I got a different Gram excellent and it was basically new, someone took it out of the box, tried it for an hour, and put it back in and returned it.

17" (in a 16" body) is not for everyone, but this weighs less than most 15" and even some 14" laptops. Big fan of the grams

forget what year it was made, I'd just say for a laptop of it's retail price having such a dim screen is what's surprising. Regardless, I really do wish it was brighter!

Shopping laptop for my son now, he will be a freshman this August with a major in computer science. My main concern is the build quality because the laptop will be carried all day long and will be tortured physically.

Looks like a good deal for a Lunar Lake laptop with 32GB RAM. It should be a great generalist PC for most tasks, including some light gaming.

That Arc 140v iGPU won't be held back by 16GB of RAM Lunar Lake laptops often ship with, so it should perform quite well compared to something like a 780m or 890m. There are plenty of benchmarks available on YouTube that compare the iGPU to those AMD counterparts, where the 140v will actually them in many games, and generally match the AMD iGPUs in AMD-favored titles. Just don't expect it to play games well at the full 2560x1600 resolution. That's too much for that iGPU to handle for all but older games. You'll find much more playable framerates in between 800p (same as the Steam Deck) and 1200p, a couple of common resolutions that maintain the 16:10 screen ratio and are widely supported in most games.

Back to the laptop's specs! The screen, while it has a very nice resolution, is not especially bright at 320 nits, and it's an LCD rather than OLED. It looks to be a good LCD however at 99% DCI-P3, so at least it has a good color gamut. Don't expect to use this with direct, bright sunlight without straining your eyes. It has an anti-glare coating, so that should help in bright rooms. Ideally, you should get a monitor that can display 400 nits to deal with bright rooms and light, but I've used monitors as low as 250 nits without too many issues in office environments.

1TB SSD, plenty of RAM, great power-efficient but still powerful CPU, Wi-Fi 7, and Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports. Just make sure the larger 17" display isn't too big for you. 3.22lbs is a very comfortable weight for a larger laptop as well.

If I was in the market for a laptop, this would be a very tempting deal. And, it's actually available used in a lot of Best Buy stores all over the country, so it's not unobtainable.

Such a terrible screen 60hz 320nits in 2026 literally kills this deal. You are gonna be staring at this ugly not so bright screen all day long and you are gonna hate yourself for buying this junk.

This is not a gaming laptop, but it actually can be used for AAA gaming at 1080p low or better settings. It can even play Cyberpunk 2077 at ~46fps with medium settings with XeSS. You get great battery life, the ability to use any productivity application and plenty of storage in a light, long-battery laptop. So long as you main goal isn't high-resolution gaming, this laptop is unlikely to disappoint you. My 16yo son has a 14" laptop with this CPU and he loves it.

That said, pairing this CPU/GPU with a 17" screen at QHD isn't the best since few modern games will have great frame rates at QHD on this iGPU. This GPU pairs best with a 14" 1080 OLED. But you can run games at lower resolution than the native resolution, so it isn't the end of the world.
I have the Lenovo Yoga so I cannot speak to the quality of THIS brand, but the processor is absolutely fantastic for gaming. I travel a lot so being able to play Stellaris, Surviving Mars, Age of Wonders 4, Civ 7, etc. seamlessly is something I never expected from an integrated graphics laptop, but this thing delivers.

I do NOT play competitive AAA online shooters with this so temper your expectations accordingly.
