This 7 quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven stands out as a budget way to try bread baking, sourdough, stews, and other oven or grill cooking. The size leaves room for steam, which helps crust, and it can handle smaller loaves too. It is also described as heavy and practical, with strong heat retention and even heat distribution. The main drawbacks are the weight, about 17 pounds, and the bulk for limited storage or smaller households. The promo code has also been reported as not working, though some colors are listed at the sale price without it.
Common Questions (6)
Yes. The 7-qt size leaves room for steam to build, which can improve crust, and it also fits smaller loaves if needed. It's repeatedly used for homemade and artisan sourdough bread.
Yes, but it works best as a slow-cook vessel rather than a quick stovetop pan. A suggested method is to steam the meatloaf in beef broth first, then add tomato sauce and slow cook for hours; the 7-qt size is also large enough for bigger loaves.
The promo code is reportedly not working in cart for some shoppers. The red version has also been seen at $37.99 without the coupon, and several other colors are listed at $39 with no code needed.
The enameled coating is generally considered protective, but chips or cracks can expose the color layer underneath. Durability concerns center on enamel wear over time and avoiding harsh temperature shifts or metal utensils.
It weighs about 17 pounds and takes up roughly a cubic foot of space. That makes it sturdy for cooking, but potentially awkward if you have limited cupboard or counter space.
For 1-2 people, it can be larger than necessary; a 5-qt or 4.5-qt may be more convenient. The 7-qt is better when you want extra room for bread, stews, or larger meatloaves.
