If you do this, be aware that a 7-quart dutch oven weighs about 17 pounds and takes up about a cubic foot of space. Not great for those lacking cupboard or counter space Big Grin

Several other colors are on sale for $39 from the same manufacturer with no code necessary.

No. The worry about lead in no-name cast iron is overblown, and I'm not sure of a single bit of research that has shown lead in modern-day cooking pieces. Even then you have a protective enameled coating that protects your food from any trace amounts that might show up.

Community Reviews

This 7 quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven stands out as a budget way to try bread baking, sourdough, stews, and other oven or grill cooking. The size leaves room for steam, which helps crust, and it can handle smaller loaves too. It is also described as heavy and practical, with strong heat retention and even heat distribution. The main drawbacks are the weight, about 17 pounds, and the bulk for limited storage or smaller households. The promo code has also been reported as not working, though some colors are listed at the sale price without it.

My oven doesn't work. Could I make meatloaf in this?

Either really. If you're doing 2 lb loafs id probably get the larger. You run into needing a larger dutch over rather often, I've never ran into needing a smaller one.
Thank you

I have the 7 one (in Red). I like that it allows some room around it for the steam to fill and give me a better crust. It also gives me more size options since I can always make a smaller loaf in a larger pot but not the other way around.
ahh i thought the loaf needs to come in contact with the pot to develop a "crust" properly. [am not a baker]

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

Have this in Red, that I found at a bin store 2 years ago, new in the box for $10. Wife uses it for Gumbo, Jambalaya, dirty rice, red beans, pot roast, etc. Cook in it all the time, but after 2 years, the enamel is starting to chip. I think we got our money's worth for what we paid and how often we use it. As a Cajun Family, we cook big meals in it weekly. Most people won't use one this big, 5 times a year.

like on a stove top? These are typically used still in ovens. Or for example I use mine on my kamado grill. Usually to sear/brown something, then to slow cook it. But i'm sure you could make a meatloaf in this on a stove top ,but you would probably need a way to flip it. I would look up like a slowcooker recipe for meatloaf or something if you wanted to try something like that. I have a 5qt but just cook for 2 people. a 7qt is pretty big.
Oh ok. I'll check out slowcookers then, thanks for the tip!

If your oven doesn't work, it would be difficult to make meatloaf at all. Look at getting an air fryer that uses trays instead of a basket. They will usually have convection over capabilities, and you could make a small meatloaf in one with a small pan.
cool, I'll look into this, thank you!
