Inexpensive DVD or VHS versions of a movie accommodate a small percentage of users who are likely lower income. Are you opposed to this? It doesn't appear to impact the availability of higher quality versions of the same movie. I have to side with the movie studios on this one.
This sounds very "pro consumer" to me. Especially for a large company in 2026.
DVDs are said to be more fragile and have a shorter shelf life. Plus, users are more likely to double-dip and purchase a higher quality copy later if they purchase a DVD version of a movie. An argument could be made that this is worse for the environment. But it does seem that offering DVD-only copies benefits both the studios and the consumers.
