The Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains a strong drop in upgrade for existing AM4 and DDR4 systems, especially for gaming. The 3D V Cache is praised for boosting frame rates, improving 1 percent lows, and keeping performance steady even with slower RAM, while older Zen builds and 32GB to 64GB DDR4 rigs get the most value. The main knock is platform age, since similar money can go toward AM5 bundles or a 7500X3D setup with DDR5 and a motherboard. It is a practical fit when you want to extend AM4 life without rebuilding everything.

  • The 5800X3D can deliver stronger gaming results for AM4 users upgrading from older Ryzen chips, especially when CPU limits show up.

  • The 5800X3D can be a cost-effective AM4 upgrade for users who want to keep an existing platform and need an eight-core gaming CPU.

  • The X3D cache can improve gaming performance, including large gains in some older titles and an average uplift across sampled games.

  • The X3D cache can help the CPU run with slower RAM with little noticeable impact for gaming workloads.

  • The $300 deal can look pointless when a Micro Center 7500X3D DDR5 bundle is available for about $50 more and can outperform or match in many games.

  • The $300 price can be poor value for late AM4 upgrades because newer Zen 6 desktop chips are expected soon.

  • The 5800X3D can be a limited upgrade for people already on a 5600, since the starting point reduces the benefit.

  • A 5800X3D unit can fail after about two years, and an RMA may not provide a like-for-like replacement.

Don't reward this gouging. Can't believe I passed up the 5700x3d for 143 last year.
Wow when and where was this deal? Can't believe I, missed it.

AMD is really sticking it up gamers.

This chip has already paid for itself; its engineering and development.

With the AI gpu and memory crunch they could have really gained a lot of goodwill in the PC gamers community if they had listed it at $199. People would be ecstatic to update at $150 their AM4 with 32GB ram to avoid the new PC AI premium gouge.

No R&D or marketing necessary for the 5800x3d, but AMD chose to go for the jugular. Fart the goodwill.
It might be their strategy to get people to just buy the am5 x3d chips. Their reverse psychology is to make this expensive for people to get an itch to upgrade and then realize the am5 chips aren't much more but have longer life usage. Which in turn, gets people to upgrade. As it stands, seems like they aren't selling as many am5 chips DT high ram, nvme, and gpu prices. Good thing to do now is get up psu, mB and cpu at a discounted price and jump on any decent deal on ddr5 and gpus.

The anniversary edition is slightly faster than the original 5800x3d. Because it boosts more often. Do to the improved thermals from changing the cache. It's faster than a 7600x3d and about 5% slower than the new 7700x3d.
Need a source for this, because HUB just said they're identical

Damn, I bought too early. Newegg already delivered...
You can always return it for a full refund or call them to see if they can price match. Investing $350 on an AM4 platform this late in the game is complete nonsense. We're about to get ZEN 6 at the end of the year already.

Wrong! It's identical to the original 5800X3D. Stop spreading lies! The changes to the FAB did not miraculously improve the design, the performance or the temperatures. It's the same performance as the original 5800X3D.

If you have microcenter nearby, you can just wait for a good deal on AM5 bundle. Your stuff will still sell well on marketplace. I am also due for refresh, but since mc is opening later this year in the area, I am going to wait.
You are right. I am going to return. I was just annoyed my 5600x was bottlenecking my hi res uevr. For non-vr, CPU is bottlenecking but the end result gaming wise is alright since I play at higher res and prefer maxed settings intead of fps (that's why I always spend more on gpu instead of cpu). I didn't really look into pc components in a while. just been seeing crazy ram prices but did some math and after selling current parts, the upgrade to am5 makes sense. Lucky I got a MC near me. I do wonder if 5800x3d at $200 sale price (if it gets that low) is worth buying than wait for 2027 zen 6 desktop chip launch. I believe analyst says ram prices will plateau than stay the same this holiday season. I am also kicking myself for not securing a 5700x3d at $130....

I have only 16GB RAM and old Ryzen5 4600G, so it makes sense for me to upgrade. IMO $200 will make sense for you, your CPU will still resale well.

So I guess the DDR4 support is the only selling point? the 7800x3d is the same price at Microcenter and much more capable.
sure thats the only reason DDR 4 is like half price of DDR5, you can get 32 GB DDR4 and not even pay as much as 16 GB DDR5

AMD was once close to bankrupt , so the loyal gamers still bought CPU and GPU from AMD now with all the AI BS they give an f... on all loyal gamers an they are milking them out of every penny not matter if its average GPU or even old CPU , as soon the RAM prices go down nobody will care anymore of the 5700/5800 DDR4 but as these GREEDY CEO can milk us they will do because they give an BIG F on loyaly

If you are loyal to any company in the business of making money, you are a fool and deserve it.

I missed all the good 5700x3D 5800X3D deals in the past and went with 5500X3d from Ali for about $160. Coming from 3700x for gaming and regular pc use this imo is the ultimate upgrade for me. 85-90% performance of the 5800x3D for half the price. Even got 3080 for $330 upgrading from 5700xt using all the same components otherwise I'm good with how crazy things are with memory/storage right now.

If you're upgrading from 1-3 Ryzen and plan to continue with your AM4 system and need the 8 cores then IMO 5800x3D would be the more cost effective solution than a new build.

If starting from scratch, I'd go am5 for sure as the platform still gives you upgrade path down the line

Can't decide between getting this to eek out a few more years out of my 32 gb, 7900xt, 5600x system or sell the mb/ram/mobo to go to am5.. decisions decisions..
If I had something like 2600x, maybe.
if I already have like 5600, don't buy this.

Sadly, the nearest Micro Center is a 4-hour drive for me. Highly envious of anyone who lives close enough to just go grab this
15 minute drive to MC for me 😂

That's where I got my $80 5600X 😂
