Calling it a "pricing war" is a massive stretch considering one side's primary weapon is locked behind an "in-store only" sign that requires a road trip for the vast majority of the country.

It should have been $250 from launch.

Agreed. AMD is such a greedy opportunist taking advantage of gamers holding onto their AM4 builds.

Don't reward this gouging. Can't believe I passed up the 5700x3d for 143 last year.

So I guess the DDR4 support is the only selling point? the 7800x3d is the same price at Microcenter and much more capable.

Looking at userbenchmark, 5800x3d vs the 5600x, it seems like only a slight upgrade. U would probably see higher frame rates in games though because of the bigger L3 cache in the 5800x3d. I think the computer you currently have is rock solid and I personally wouldn't change a thing for a while. That is, unless you really feel like dropping 300+ on this!

AM4 definitely had a fantastic run. Bought the Ryzen 1700 way back when it came out in early 2017, and didn't update until early 2022 with the 5600. Still on the 5600 today.

Apparently the X3D cache is king and also lets you run with slwoer ram without any noticeable impact

It hink that's why 5800X3D is still so expensive

FYI userbenchmark is the most useless information for benchmarking hardware. It's better to trust sources like passmark, cinebench, geekbench. You can also go on YouTube and type in a cpu vs cpu gaming and you can see actual comparisons.

If you game, X3d might provide significant improvements, like +30% in like bf5, halo. Yes, old article so older games, but the average was 18% across all sampled games.

AMD is really sticking it up gamers.

This chip has already paid for itself; its engineering and development.

With the AI gpu and memory crunch they could have really gained a lot of goodwill in the PC gamers community if they had listed it at $199. People would be ecstatic to update at $150 their AM4 with 32GB ram to avoid the new PC AI premium gouge.

No R&D or marketing necessary for the 5800x3d, but AMD chose to go for the jugular. Fart the goodwill.
