This one takes an LR44 battery. Generally speaking these low cost LR44 powered digital calipers all have the same parasitic power drain and the battery will invariably die within a few weeks to months. If you get this one, remember to always take out the battery when you aren't using it and it should be fine.

Other calipers that use a coin style battery (2025/2032/etc) don't appear to suffer from this issue, but are harder to find and generally cost more.

Is this actually pretty accurate as it claims? I dont do much automotive work which is the last time i touched one of these things, but I have found myself wanting one of these a couple time for things at home

Without having had this exact one.... Have had a non Neiko one that looks same for the main display get unreliable because the plastic battery cover on the right side flexes and disconnects power in the middle of measurements. It was not horrible when I first got it, took about a year. Battery on that also died within same year with hadful actual uses. May have contributed to cover getting worse.
Got another off brand one where the whole thing is metal on a axpress sale for 8$, feels more solid / precise and does not flex. Looks like this:

this one is exceptional for having metric, imperial and fractional . Great for measuring tread depths to /32" units. They include a spare battery, but i found them to be fleeting, so buy spares which work fine

Absolutely spot on about the battery drain, the physics lab I work at got a bunchnof cheapo digital calipers... way easier than teaching them how to use vernier calipers... and withi. 2 to 3 semesters (1/1.5 years) all of them dead and not from over use either.

That said finding one that uses a cr2032 battery is as simple as throwing the battery name into the search bar

The problem is that these cheapo calipers do not auto turn off after use. You must physically hit the power button and gently place it down as any movement that moves the caliper will auto turn on again. I have been able to do that and have yet to have to change the battery in 3 months.

Just lock it in place before storage and this becomes a non issue. Just my experience

People keep mentioning parasitc power draw in storage
The harbor freight micrometer in my tool box has been on the same battery for close to a decade and has been accurate enough for my use.
