It's great for putting your name or phone number on tools (or "if this is for sale, it is stolen" also works well) easily identified things are less likely to grow legs. I also usually engrave the purchase date on car batteries. Sounds stupid, but it will always be there.

I can count on one finger the number of times I've personally needed the use of an engraver like this in my 40 years of life.
My Ti-83 calculator in middle or high school.

Ironically, the only thing I've ever had stolen from me....was my Ti-81 calculator from my high school locker. If I would have had an engraver......just sayin'... Smilie (true story)

On the Amazon page there's a video called "Poor Quality Control" that shows most of the engraving heads have a slightly too large shaft diameter to fit inside the engraver tool.

I've had this exact engraver for a decade or so. It's fine. You either need an engraver or you don't. Chances are you'll use this avidly for about a week or so and then it'll sit in your drawer for the next decade or two. You might use it again if you remember it's there.
That being said, it's a good little device. The stencils are a bit goofy to use, but you have to have a very steady hand if you free hand engrave and want it to not look like you have an uncontrollable tremor.

Wouldn't a Dremel Rotary Tool (without engraver in the name) do the same job? I have one with million attachments in the closet for 10 years - never needed to use - probably bought through Slickdeals 🤣

For TI calculator, one can get a credit card size tracking device and glue it on the back 😜
