Movies are generally 24 FPS.When playing back a 24 FPS source on a. 120Hz panel, it displays each frame for 5 refreshes evenly. When displaying 24FPS over 60 refresh cycles, you must unevenly display them by displaying some frames for 3 refreshes and others for 2 cycles. This is called 3:2 pulldown and it's what makes 60Hz panels so undesirable. That's why you saw over a decade of 120Hz native panels with only 60Hz (HDMI 2 and even older 1.X for 1080P) inputs.
I have the 55" version as a bedroom tv. It's not very bright but a bit brighter than lower end TVs. I also have a tcl qm7 and it's no where near that brightness.
This TCL S5 is an entry level 4K Google TV that works best for basic viewing and a budget bedroom setup. It is described as brighter than lower end TVs, but still far behind TCLs higher tier QM7 and QM6K models. The 60 hertz panel is the main limitation for sports, streaming, and gaming, while 120 hertz is available only at 1440p and 1080p, not at 4K. It is a solid fit if you want simple TV use without chasing premium motion or brightness.
Bedroom TV buyers who mainly watch basic cable or DVDs, because the 60Hz panel is fine for simple viewing.
No. It is a 60Hz TV at 4K, with 120Hz available only at 1440p and 1080p. That makes it fine for basic TV and streaming, but not ideal if you want 4K 120Hz gaming.
For streaming, sports, or gaming, a 120Hz TV is the better choice. The S5's 60Hz panel is described as fine for basic cable, satellite, and DVDs, but the lower refresh rate is a drawback for motion-heavy content.
It is not very bright, though it is brighter than lower-end TVs. It is positioned as an entry-level set that works for basic TV, but it is far dimmer than TCL's QM7.
The QM6K is a big step up in picture quality and features, but it costs more than twice as much. The S5 is the cheaper entry-level option if you only need a basic TV.

60hz only downside. If you stream, watch sports or game, just spend the extra couple hundred on 120hz. 60 is fine for basic cable, satellite, DVDs, etc.

They don't film at 120hz so this would be a waste. They don't really shoot at 60hz very often. Most is done at 30hz. Gaming yea, 120hz go for it if you game.
