In the mid 2000s I paid $2900 on a Sony 55" rear projection LCD. It was near top of the line back then. $2,900 in 2005 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $4,976.22 today. It was a big deal for me back then, and I have a lot more money now, but I probably won't spend that much on a TV ever again.

It is incredible what you get for your money today. That said, plenty of people "will" spend $3300 on a TV.
