This RYOBI ONE plus starter kit is mainly a battery play, with the free tool often used to drive down the effective cost of the 2.0 Ah and 4.0 Ah batteries. The bundle math can be favorable, especially when the tool is returned or resold, and the charger adds extra value compared with buying batteries alone. The catch is that the promotion is picky about pickup and delivery, often requiring in store pickup and matching store availability, so the workaround can take effort. The 2.0 Ah packs are also seen as lighter for hand tools, while the 4.0 Ah batteries are the more durable option.

  • The bundle can work out to a low effective battery cost when the free tool is handled strategically.

  • The 2.0Ah batteries can be useful for lighter hand tools where reduced weight matters.

  • Some shoppers report saving money by splitting the purchase between home delivery and store pickup.

  • The deal can be re-used by keeping the batteries and later selecting a different free tool.

  • The promotional deal can fail when the tool and batteries do not share the same delivery or pickup options.

  • The bundle may require in-store pickup at the same store, and the workaround may stop working after changes.

  • The bundle discount may not be evenly applied across the tool and batteries, making the effective savings harder to estimate.

  • The 2.0Ah batteries can degrade faster than older NiCad packs, with some lasting less than a year.

Everyone who returns something or cancels an order in compliance with a retailer's policies is a scammer?

General rule of thumb: buy the most expensive free tool to return to get the batteries the cheapest. Back when they had the two pack of 4.0 I got the 149 chainsaw and paid 33.50 or something for 2x4.0. was about 100 bucks for 6x 4.0 batteries
What you did sounds like a good deal. Right now all available tools are under $99, so if I calculate correctly, batteries and charger will end up about $55 after tax. Does not seem worth the trouble unless one needs the whole kit.

The key is to get in the first day or find a glitch where they list a more expensive tool. You gatta be fast.

I've even bought a tool with batteries, returned the batteries then bought new batteries and returned the tool. Cost me 82 after tax for my tool and 2 batteries

So it works both ways, right? Can return batteries and keep the tool or return the tool and keep batteries?

When you did it twice and ended up with the tool and batteries, is it $82 vs $99+tax? Doesn't seem like a whole lot of win for the effort or am I missing something?

I did it by splitting between home and store. Saved 18 bucks plus tax

LOL, lighten up.

I would abuse the system as well if i had the time but I'm not that desperate for batteries yet. This deal will be around labor day and black friday

Ok, so returning or cancelling something, unused and unopened, in compliance with a retailer's return policy is "abuse" ?
