This GarveeHome 12,000 BTU mini split stands out as a low cost way to add both cooling and heat, with strong efficiency compared with window units and quiet operation. The comments also point to easy DIY installation for handy buyers, and the included line set and precharged setup help keep the job straightforward. The main cautions are that it is not WiFi, the electrical work still needs care, and the listing appears to have shifted from SEER 19 to SEER2 17. It looks best for a garage, shed, or room where 230V power is already available.

  • DIY homeowners cooling a garage or shed, because it can be cheaper to buy and run than a window unit and works well when you can follow a YouTube install.

  • Handy installers with basic electrical skills, because the unit is straightforward to mount, wire, and vacuum when you already have tools and can borrow help.

  • Owners wanting quiet, efficient heating and cooling, because it runs quietly, uses less power than window units, and can heat in cold weather.

  • Garage or workshop users in hot climates, because it can cool a space quickly and then ramp down to maintain temperature instead of blasting nonstop.

Fyi I bought the same unit on Tiktok shop with wifi about 2 weeks ago. I ordered a vacuum pump. Extra tape, electrical disconnect whip and breaker. I installed this weekend in a heat wave. First time installing one. Relatively easy.

The space I had was around 625 ft2. I was running 2 portable units - one dual hose and one single. One was in an office and the other in a sit down area separated by a door.

This unit exceeds my expectations. Rooms are now cooler than running the two units. I am now only running the minisplit. No noise and soo cool.

fyi cost at the time was $329 plus tax. have another roughly $250 in equipment and supplies.
Many people didn't try, because of the installation. But once they installed one, they will find out how EFFICIENCY mini split ac does. I had one portable AC 8K BTU unit. It draw 1000 watt and no efficiency as all. You run 2 portable AC, and now you run 1 mini split. Later, when you see electric bill, you will be more happier. How much less electric you used with mini split AC. And mini split has HEAT work as well as cooling.

I'm over 70 so I can't install if wire in attic or anything complicated. I need to cool 2 rooms with AC. Do I just buy 2 of these and hire handy man?
How big is your 2 rooms? This 12K BTU unit for MEDIUM SIZE room (500 - 750 sq ft). If your have a small bedroom around 150-250 sq ft, I suggest you get the 9K BTU unit for energy saving. I guess you have to hire a handyman. Hopefully, you could find a handyman that doesn't rip-off you.

Many here say the average installation cost is about $250, but Google says it's between $2k and $6k, which is outrageously higher. Where do I find an installer for $250? I'll order a 120v unit and try to self-install.

Go on craigslist and nextdoor and you will find somebody installing these non name brand 12k units for under $1k ... But if you want a Licensed company doing name brands, then expect to pay $4-5k

Great if unable to install mini split. But it has a terrible seer reading of only 15.

Edit: I see the inexpensive U shaped Media inverter window air conditioner everyone is using also has a 15 SEER rating.

Where on earth do you ever get the "50 amps hookup or circuit"??? lol
Realize that just because any a/c or appliance is 230v does NOT mean it is or requires a 50 amp circuit.
This unit won't even come close to exceeding a 20 amp 220v service.
you intentionally ignoring the part about a camper, or just not know wtf that has to do with my comment so you decided to spout off in an incorrect manner just to try to insult me?
you failed.

If you are refering to my earlier post, I spent $250 if not a bit more on a stand, electrical whip, disconnect box, breaker, hose trim kit, vacuum pump with manifold & extra PTFE tape.

If you buy one, you will still need the electrical whip, disconnect box, stand or brackets and maybe the trim kit. $150 or so.

Now hire someone with equipment (tools, vacuum pump, etc) and licensed. Best case - 2 guys 4 hours each = 8 hours @ $100 hr = $800. That would be best case in my opinion.

Its all about the money. Google lies constantly, especially about politics, while protecting domestic socialists/grifters who contribute to their criminal ideology. As others have mentioned, check facebook market place, craigslist and nextdoor for recommendations on local installers.

Thanks for the helpful advice! I'll get a 120v unit for easier installation and hopefully be able to do it myself (after watching a bunch of YouTube's). Is the plan doable or wishful thinking?

you failed.
The camper part is meaningless. He asked if this can be used in a small camper, that's all. Even with you blindly assuming that he will be in some kind of specific camping 'facility' along with you wrongly assuming that all camping facilities/grounds have 50 amp hookups (they don't, as many/most have 15amp or 30 amp hookups).

The point is... all he said was can it be used in "a small camper". No matter whether this mini-split is installed in a small camper, or a monstrous size camper, a house trailer, or apartment, or home... it STILL only requires less than a 20 amp circuit/breaker.
By you telling him he needs to find a 50 amp hookup shows you are very misguided.
If you have to butter your ego to laughably say "you failed" to me, when it's you that doesn't know electrical requirements and proper hookups, says it all.

at work we installed these each in less than 45 minutes ... open box ... get some bricks or pavers to put unit on ... drill 2.5" hole from outside to inside .... go inside and hang mounting hardware. Mount the indoor unit and connect the 3 pipes ... push pipes out hole ... go outside connect pipes to unit. ... release the freon by turning screw ...seal hole in wall ... plug in to 120v or 240V (which ever one you got)... go inside -- turn on unit and freeze to death ... literally took 45 minutes ...
This dude did it in like ... 7 minutes :-)
