I have 3 windows ac, they have lasted me 20 years already.

So basically - Google around to see if there's protocol/hardware support for your particular unit before you buy it if you're counting on those "Smart" features. Otherwise, the remote control works just fine. Side note: Please don't electrocute yourself and note that most of these 12k BTU models will say max protection device of 10 amps or so. If you, like me, have the very popular Homeline-style breakers, the smallest 2-pole breaker you can buy is 15a, so you'll have to buy a fused AC disconnect.
Basically, if you buy one of these and already have common hand tools, a drill, a hole saw, etc.. you have a few expenses to add on. For my latest install -- I had a 240v receptacle in my garage already, so I just turned it into a junction box and used grey PVC as a conduit straight through the wall into the new fused AC disconnect mounted outside. From there, I ran a liquid-tite conduit with THHN conductors to the unit itself. Keep in mind that NEC requires a dedicated circuit, so you're wasting two panel breakers on something fused at 10 amps.
Here's some math for anyone who still cares:
** note: I buy conduit and conductors in bulk, these are prices I just pulled from Home Depot
- Mount: $40. Optional, you can mount to concrete if you'd like -- add concrete anchors or other hardware. I opted to mount mine to the side of my garage about 4' up, above our snow line.
- Disconnect: ~$20, if the tag says max current protection device rating of 10A... either install a 10 amp breaker or install a fused AC disconnect w/ fuses.
- Fuses: $30 (again, if you're running anything but homeline you can probably just get a 10 amp breaker)
- 6 foot 10/3 liquidtite conduit whip: $31 (once again, you protect based on the max amperage listed on the device label, for this one it's probably 10 amps).
- Lineset cover: $25-50
If you're not using Homeline, you can probably just get a 10 amp 2-pole breaker. Since I was reusing a 10AWG circuit and have homeline panels, I opted for a quad-plex breaker. This take the space of 2 standard breakers, but gives you 3 total circuits, 2x 120v @ 20a + 1x 240v @ 20a. So I have my 240v circuit to the AC and two open spaces for additional 120v circuits. Had this on-hand, but they're about $50.Realize that just because any a/c or appliance is 230v does NOT mean it is or requires a 50 amp circuit.
This unit won't even come close to exceeding a 20 amp 220v service.

The space I had was around 625 ft2. I was running 2 portable units - one dual hose and one single. One was in an office and the other in a sit down area separated by a door.
This unit exceeds my expectations. Rooms are now cooler than running the two units. I am now only running the minisplit. No noise and soo cool.
fyi cost at the time was $329 plus tax. have another roughly $250 in equipment and supplies.
