I bought one, but it requires easy load bit clips to put bits in it... They don't seem to be readily available empty. I found several kits that came on the bit clips, but I was looking for something to load my own bits into...

This doesn't seem like a SD to me at all since it doesn't come with the clips. Also I hate that this case is not transparant which means you need to open it up to figure out what is inside.

Unfortuantely there aren't a lot of DIY options for building your own bit case and I was tired of have all the standard bit cases that I had which collecting in my tool box (MW, Dewalt, Makita, Craftsman, Bosch). Many of those bit case have really bad bit clips in them making it hard to get your bits out of and/or you cannot easily see what's inside and have to continously rummage through these cases to find the screw/drill bit that you're looking for.

I recently created my own DIY bit storage case by purchasing a large Dewalt TSTAK case with built in rails that allows one to add whatever type of bit clips that you want (clips for small bits, extend bits, 1/4" drill bits or paddle bits). The case comes with a transparant top and it can be purchased from Aliexpress (model DT70803). The clips that fit this case are also all availabe on Aliexpress. You can even purchase smaller cases that lock into the rails within the larger case if you want to include small storage boxes which hold loose bits (e.g. PH2 or T25) and/or other items (screws, nails, etc). This also allows you to pull the smaller box out of the case and put in your pocket if/when necessary.

This is such an amazing rec. I need to find the Milwaukee version so it looks nice in my set.

Could you tell me why you need a case without bits?

Ideally you get a case and clips and put in your loose bits. I have some loose bits but similarly to the complaint above, it's not very slick to buy a case and fill it with clips and then with your bits, generally better to just buy a premade set of clips, bits, and case and replace the bits you want to.

Also it allows you to make a custom case which contains a mix of the specific screw bits, drill bits, 1/4" sockets and other items that you intend to use the most all in one case.

I'm a "redman" as well and I unfortunately couldn't find any empty MW packout cases that have built in rails to add various bits. I suppose I could always spray paint the yellow case red if it bothered me that much. Unfortunatgely MW Packout and TSTAKs stacking systems are not compatible.

Craftsman also use the TSTAKS design and their cases are red if you wanted to go that route. I was unable to find a red TSTAKS case that had a transparant top and being able to see into the case without opening it was an absolutely necessity for my DIY bit case.

The deal ended on my Amazon app. I added an auto buy at $6.00 and I'm going to do the same with the listed bits. Even at this price using as bulk or seeing if I can print the but holders it decreases the price by 30.
