Omg avoid this model LIKE THE PLAGUE

I had 3 of the exact same one and all 3 died. I think there's a known defect in them. Costco was awesome about returning and getting a new one. After 3rd one I said refund only.

Good price given the market. Thanks!

Bought a similar 2TB Sandisk three years ago (for $100) and it's held up well. Extremely fast even after writing data for 20-30 minutes straight and warming up.

Edit: Others say they've had failures and a quick search online seems to bear this out for at least some models. So, even though my old one has worked out fine, I probably wouldn't buy this one for any data I care about.

Thanks for head up! Need something for photo storage and if this one is buggy, I'd never hear the end of it.

The SanDisk Go Portables had some problems with the V2 versions early on, but the issue has been addressed (allegedly) in the newer V3 models. We used them at work and while I never personally had any issues, as soon as I saw the complaints & saw that SanDisk publicly addressed it I insisted on upgrading.

It's unlikely to be; per my previous post it was the V2 models that were a problem (QC/shitty component issues iirc). So long as it's V3 it'll be fine.

Why exactly? Can't blame it all on AI as other computer components like processors and RAM haven't seen 2.5x jumps in price

Um, yes you can. AI surged the demand for both and manufacturers are prioritizing the top payer - RAM doubled in price, as did SSD. Consumer processor manufacturing is different than what the AI data centers demand, so they are relatively unaffected. I, for one, am glad that I finished my gaming rig and NAS builds over two years ago, as it probably will take at least this long for the prices to normalize.

Prices aren't going to normalize unless the AI trend/market drops off the side of a cliff. Right now the AI growth in the world is outpacing the RAM/Storage supply, and AI is showing no signs of growth slowing down, if anything, the opposite. At this point, prices will probably continue rising before they ever 'normalize' again, and we will likely never see the prices of ~2 years ago, at least note for a 10+ years out.

I haven't bought SanDisk since their software scandal in 2023. Are they safe to use again?

The AI bubble will pop eventually, as long as our corrupt government doesn't subsidize the industry with the same BS justification as the 2008 taxpayer-tunded bank bailouts "too big to fail" or a new excuse "AI is vital to national security."
