Either way, I'm going to be in need of a new water heater, and I've been eyeing these.
Yes, I was told cleaning once or twice a year.
I guess the cost and install difference for me with a new build. Standard is 50 gallon so I would be paying the difference between that and either the 75 (no extra install costs) or the tankless. And probably extra install costs.

Plumbing Factors:
1. Water quality effects EVERYTHING regardless of tank or tankless.
2. Don't brag about how old your tank is and that you've done nothing....EVERYTHING BREAKS
3. Avoid big box stores if you are needing a new water heater, plumbing supply are usually priced equal and always offer a higher tier product.
4. Tanks aren't for everyone, and Tankless isn't for everyone do what works best for YOU don't buy into sales marketing. Research and facts are your friend.
My TDS readings from my Zerowater filters are in the 150ish range but our water in Iowa is notorious for having high nitrates, pesticides and insecticides from agricultural and livestock run off.
My original post was a bit of a jab at the enshiftifcation epidemic we are all suffering through in a late stage capitalist system of government. If I'm in the market for appliances, car parts, etc. I tend to look first at the older appliances like old but still new stock or even used from refurbishers who would warranty and repair. I also look at parts availability and serviceability before I would even consider buying something new.
Even with a 5-10 year warranty on new appliances, that is designed to fail and no longer repairable we as a species are heading toward WALL-E world unless we pivot to sustainable everything.

I often wonder how many people reading this/these comments are here because they're "new" unit took a 💩 or if they're worried their old unit might and are sucked in to purchasing due to fear.
