The Traeger Pro 34 is a pellet smoker that stands out for easy set it and walk away cooking, with strong results on brisket, ribs, jerky, smoked burgers, and meatloaf. The current $379.99 price is described as a strong deal, especially since this model has often sat closer to $500. It has 884 square inches of cooking space, which feels tight for larger cooks, and the build is described as basic with thinner metal than older Traeger units. The main concerns are thermometer accuracy and reports of temperature swings from the control panel, so it suits cooks who want pellet convenience more than premium controls.
Common Questions (5)
At $379.99 it is described as a solid deal and better value than the MSRP, with several comments saying it is worth buying at this price. The main caveat is that it is a basic, barebones model rather than a feature-heavy "pro" grill.
The built-in thermometer can read inaccurately, and some reviews mention temperature swings from a faulty control panel. A Bluetooth or WiFi thermometer can help monitor temps more reliably.
It can handle jerky, smoked burgers, smoked meatloaf, ribs, and brisket, and it also can be used for normal grilling. The grilling function is not the same as a dedicated grill, so it is better suited to smoking first.
The Pro 34 has 884 sq in of cooking space, which is enough for two pork roasts or a couple slabs of ribs, and one brisket at most. It may feel small if you regularly cook for larger groups or want more than one big cut at a time.
A Bluetooth or WiFi thermometer and a smoke tube cover most of the extra features found on pricier models. That setup adds better temperature monitoring and more smoke options without moving up to a more expensive grill.
