YES actually you could potentially damage your paint. This could mar, haze, or leave swirl marks - exactly what you're trying to remove.

For similar money you can get a decent dual action random orbiting polisher from harbor freight and some good quality pads.

If you just want something for wax they have 10" low speed buffers with microfiber bonnets.

Honestly, most cars have so many nooks and crannies, I never saved much time or effort using a random orbital buffer when doing a single car. I still end up doing about half the car by hand where the buffer can't reach. I would use one for multiple cars, or a business, but I'm back to hand waxing.

I've never heard of trying that but the point of a buffer is to work a polish into the paint faster than your own blood sweat and tears can do. Once you're done. Then you can buff off and remove it. It's best to use the buffer for the hard work, and the easy work you should be doing with your hands.

this is a dual random orbit buffer. i hand wax my car and use this to remove wax and it works great. just use the soft wool pad and be careful not to get dirt in it. any buffer you buy has the potential to leave swirl marks if you dont keep it clean. this is a great buffer for 30 bucks and one battery removes the wax on the entire car. im not sure about long term reliability as i have only used mine about 7 or 8 times but i am very pleased with it so far. im actually very impressed with how strong the motor is for such a light weight small battery buffer.
